I'm running for Dementia UK
I’m stepping completely outside my comfort zone and taking on a 60-mile challenge in 30 days to raise money and awareness for dementia - a cause very close to my heart.
My mum is in her third year of living with vascular dementia, with an expectancy of 5 years. (Although everyone’s experience is different.)
Dementia doesn’t just steal memories, it slowly changes the person you love, and watching someone who means the world to you slowly change is incredibly difficult. But it also reminds you to cherish every smile, laugh, conversation and moment we have together.
I have never been a runner and I know 60 miles might not sound like a huge distance to some people, but for someone who has only recently started running 1 mile max, it feels massive to me! But that’s exactly why I’m doing this…to challenge myself, raise awareness and hopefully help other families facing dementia.
