Rooted in Memory

Dedicate a tree. Celebrate your loved one. Support families facing dementia.

What is Rooted in Memory?

Dedicate a tree to celebrate the life of your loved one while supporting families facing dementia.

Dedicating a tree with Dementia UK is a meaningful way to remember someone special on a birthday, anniversary or other occasion – or simply to celebrate everything they meant to you. It also makes the perfect gift for family and friends that will help keep their precious memories alive.

Your tree is planted in a woodland or nature reserve in a region of your choice: a place to come together with family and friends to remember, reflect and celebrate your loved one’s life.

And every tree will provide families across the UK with life-changing dementia support – a gift that will last for years to come.

How it works

Enter the name of the person whose life you wish to celebrate on our webform.

We suggest making a minimum donation of £75 per tree, which covers the cost of the tree and its ongoing maintenance, and will help us provide a family with the life-changing support of a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse.

Personalise your dedication and write a message in memory of your loved one (optional) and choose the information you would like printed on your certificate, as well as the region you would like your tree to be planted in.

Once your tree has been dedicated we will email you with a unique certificate number that will allow you to access the details of your allocated species and woodland within two weeks. We will also send you a certificate of dedication in the post.

How your donation helps

Your donation could provide a family like Gail’s with the support of a specialist Admiral Nurse as they navigate their journey with dementia.

"The difference between my Admiral Nurse Maxine and any other professional I’ve seen is that she gives me time. I’m not rushed in and out. I now have a different perspective on dementia and dedicate so much of my life to things that bring me joy and meaning, like wandering the local nature reserve with my dog and photographing the local wildlife."

Who plants your trees?

Dementia UK works with not-for-profit organisation Eforests. Eforests aims to create and restore woodlands throughout the UK. Eforests is run almost entirely by volunteers and all profits made are put towards funding new tree-planting projects around the country.

Please note that all of the woodlands are owned and managed by either the local community, farmers, nature reserve managers or private landowners – not Eforests.

Where will my tree be planted?

Your tree will be planted in a region of your choice, in the UK,

South-East England
South-West England
The Midlands
Northern England
Scotland
Wales

Eforests plant trees throughout the UK in almost every county. They will always do their best to plant your tree in your chosen region, however depending on space limitations at certain sites, we can’t guarantee a specific location will be available.

Should they be unable to plant your tree(s) in your chosen region, they will plant them in the nearest available region.

Unfortunately, Eforests cannot plant trees within Northern Ireland.

Which tree is mine? Will there be a plaque or label on my tree?

To protect the natural beauty of the woodlands, we do not mark the trees in any way so although you can visit the woodland, you will not be able to identify individually dedicated trees. Each tree that is dedicated should be seen as a contribution to the woodland.

We also ask anyone visiting the woodland to respect their natural surroundings and not mark the trees in any way or place any labels, plaques or  flowers near the trees.

Can I visit my dedicated tree in its woodland?

Yes!

Everyone is welcome to visit the woodlands as Eforests only plants trees on publicly accessible land.

Some of the woodlands may have access restrictions at certain times or visitors may need to make an appointment with the landowner prior to visiting.

Once you have had your tree dedicated, you can check the 'My tree' page on Eforests website to find full details of where your tree is planted and if there are any restrictions on visiting that particular woodland.
