I'm taking part in the November Swim Challenge

Our Granny passed away a few years ago after a courageous battle with dementia. Watching her struggle with day-to-day tasks and memory loss was incredibly difficult, and it often left us feeling helpless.

Taking part in the November Swim Challenge for Dementia UK is my way of doing something tangible to help families going through similar experiences. She was always there for anyone in need – volunteering at Pinderfields Hospital and helping with the local Meals on Wheels service – and this challenge is my way of honouring her kindness and generosity.

I haven’t swum laps in a pool since being in school, so this 10k swim will be a huge challenge!

I would be incredibly grateful for your support – every donation, no matter how small, makes a real difference.

Thank you so much!

The final stretch!!🏁

Monday 1st Dec

On the final day of November I completed the final swim of my 10k challenge for Dementia UK, and I couldn’t have asked for a better place to finish than the Cornish sea. Cold, salty, a bit chaotic - but the perfect ending to something that has meant far more to me than just ticking off a distance.

This challenge has reminded me how important this cause truly is, and how many families it touches. Every donation, every message, and every bit of support along the way has genuinely pushed me through the harder swims. I’m really grateful for all of it.

As I stood in the water at the end, I couldn’t help but think about her. I hope she would be proud.

My longest swim yet!

Monday 1st Dec

My longest swim of the 10k charity challenge for dementia - 2,100m, which worked out at 84 lengths and took me 1 hour and 28 minutes.

I’ll be honest, it was tougher and far more time-consuming than I expected when I first signed up. I knew it would be a challenge, but I definitely underestimated how long those metres feel once you’re actually in the pool. There were a few points where I had to convince myself to just keep going, length by length.

But I got it done, and I’m proud of that.
Thank you to everyone supporting the challenge - it genuinely keeps me motivated to turn up and put the work in.

Officially Begun! 🏊‍♀️💙

Tuesday 4th Nov

I’ve completed my first two training sessions — a total of 1,650 metres (66 lengths) so far, which means I’m one-sixth of the way through my 10km goal.

It’s definitely going to be a bigger challenge than I first thought... around 30–38 lengths per swim, 3 swims per week for 4 weeks. Only four days into the month and my shoulders and back are already feeling it, and it's not my most graceful look - evidently!

Thank you so much to everyone who’s donated and sent messages already!

First Training Session Done! 🏊‍♀️

Monday 27th Oct

I’ve officially started training for my 10k Swim Challenge for Dementia UK — and it’s going to be quite the journey!

I managed 600m today (24 lengths), which is technically only about 6% of the total 400 lengths I’ll need to swim throughout November. Safe to say, it’s going to take me a bit more time (and a lot more stamina) than I first thought... especially considering I haven’t swum proper laps in over 7 years!

On a lighter note — Me: 0 | My swim cap: 1.

There is no hope for my hair throughout November..

Jokes aside, I’m really proud to have made a start. Every length is one step closer to helping families affected by dementia, and I know Granny would be cheering me on. 💙
