I'm walking 62 miles in May

I’m walking 62 miles in May and raising funds so that families affected by dementia get the specialist help and advice they need. I would be grateful for your support.

An £8 donation can cover the telephone costs of two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.

Thank you!

My mum

Wednesday 28th May
This is the reason why I pushed so hard. Dementia is cruel and it took my mum away from me. It stripped her for who she was and I cry each night remembering her . I love you

Why this walk

Wednesday 14th May

Why I’m Walking for Dementia

This walk is personal.

I’m walking to honour my mum – a woman full of grace, strength, and love – who was slowly taken from us by dementia. Watching her fade, day by day, was one of the most painful experiences of my life. She was once the centre of our family, full of laughter and wisdom. But this cruel illness robbed her of her memories, her dignity, and her voice.

No family should have to go through that alone.

Dementia affects nearly 1 million people in the UK, and millions more around the world. It doesn’t just impact the person diagnosed – it changes the lives of everyone who loves them.

So I’ve committed to walking 62 miles this month. Every step is for my mum. Every mile is a tribute to her courage. Every donation helps Dementia UK support families who are still facing the hardest days of their lives.

If you can, please support. Walk with me. Share the message. Or simply take a moment to remember someone you love.

Because no one should have to face dementia alone.

With love,

Umesh

Walking for mum

Friday 2nd May

21 miles down. 41 to go.

Each mile I walk this month isn’t just about the distance—it’s about remembering. About honouring. About facing the ache in my chest that I’ve learned to carry every day since dementia took my mum from me.

This challenge—62 miles for dementia awareness—is personal. Painfully personal.

Just look at that smile. That was my mum. Soft-spoken, full of love, with a quiet strength that carried generations. She lit up the room without ever needing to raise her voice. But even that beautiful light wasn’t strong enough to fight the shadows dementia cast over her.

I watched her forget things slowly. Then faster. I watched confusion take hold where clarity used to live. She’d look at me—sometimes knowing me, sometimes not—but deep down, I always hoped something in her heart remembered.

She was slipping away in front of us, and there was nothing we could do but hold her hand through the fog.

So now, I walk. I walk for the memories we lost, for the dignity she deserved, for the voice she couldn’t always find. And I walk for every family going through the same heartbreaking journey.

At 21 miles, I’ve already walked through more than just streets and parks—I’ve walked through grief, resilience, and memory. Every step is for her.

If you’ve loved someone who’s faded before your eyes, I walk with you too.

Please support this journey. Donate, share, or simply walk beside me—because nobody should lose someone like this.

With love and memory,

Umesh
