I'm walking 62 miles in May

I’m walking 62 miles in May and raising funds so that families affected by dementia get the specialist help and advice they need. I would be grateful for your support.

An £8 donation can cover the telephone costs of two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.

Thank you!

Mission completed!

Saturday 31st May
Well I completed the 62 miles target on Thursday this week, just ahead of schedule. Just this week it has become harder to walk as my body has objected somewhat, so I am glad I was a little ahead of target! 😃 I have not walked every day (my arthritic toes have not allowed that), but I have walked most days and on coast paths, parkruns, Somerset lanes, festival perimeters and even one day on a hotel treadmill, so it has been varied. Thank you all the incredible people who have supported me with donations. Together we have raised over £1300 for Dementia UK and I hope that may climb a little further before the page closes. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of you for your wonderful generosity. 🙏❤️ In addition the walking has really helped me in regaining some fitness and getting back out into nature after being very sedentary over the winter, so thank you all also for giving me the incentive to do that and to keep going. I will be going to see my mother later today and while she may not understand what I have been doing, I will have a small feeling of satisfaction knowing that other families suffering with dementia will be able to get the support and advice they need through difficult times. Thank you to all of you again! ❤️🙏

Back in Somerset

Tuesday 27th May
Back in the lanes today in the rain (I’ve been so lucky with good walking weather this month) and very close to my 62 miles target now. Will achieve and exceed it this week and hope to put some serious miles on the total before month-end! Thanks again to everyone who is supporting me and Dementia UK 🤓🙏🥰

Glastonbudget! 🎶🥳

Tuesday 27th May
Have been at Glastonbudget tribute band music festival for the last few days. Signal was very intermittent and so some walking went unrecorded but I still managed to maintain my daily average with specific walks over the 5 days there. The music was great too, albeit the wind was bitter!!

On the road but still walking ….

Friday 23rd May
Well we were in Birmingham earlier this week as Sarah was speaking at a conference. Rather than walk near the bush and fumey M42 I chose to walk in the hotel gym … got in a quick 3km (1.8m) before having to check out 😃🙏

Almost at 75% of target now

Monday 19th May
Well, we are now back in Somerset, so rather than the coast path of Devon I have been walking the lovely lanes near home, filled with the smell of wild garlic and the sound of spring birdsong. I’ve had to take a couple of days off walking in the last week due to soreness of an arthritic big toe joint, but that thankfully that seems to have eased a bit over the past couple of days when I’ve extended the length to walk 5.5 miles and 4 today, so I am still ahead of schedule.

Amazing light on the walk tonight ❤️

Day 5 Update

Monday 5th May
Well it’s Day 5, Bank Holiday Monday, and I’ve been looking to do at least 2 miles every day. After doing the Bolberry ParkRun on Saturday with Sarah and Dex, which was three laps totalling 3.65 miles (according to Strava),  I’ve been doing two laps for the last couple of days. The course is partly on the South West coast path and the views are spectacular, and so has the wind been! 😃
I’ll post a couple of photos after this …
So far I have walked  13.4 miles cumulatively and so am ahead of the average which feels good in case I need a day for the feet and muscles to recover, or if for some reason on one day I cannot walk.
Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far, you are extraordinary, and thank you to all who are supporting me in this Challenge. I love you all ❤️

Fundraising for Dementia

Wednesday 30th Apr
Last year in June I walked well over 60 miles for Dementia UK and some very kind family and friends supported me by donating to this vey worthy cause. This year the cause feels even more poignant as Mum has gone into a care home recently which specialises in Dementia, after being cared for at home for several years. It is an awful condition which gradually removes the identity and memories of loved ones, and their ability to be independent.  We are fortunate that Mum is very happy and relatively easy to care for, but for others the condition is not so kind, even brutal, and the challenges for care are very great.
If you feel able to support in any way please do, so that other families are able to get the support we have been fortunate enough to be able to get for our mum. Many thanks in advance. Tim xx

I’m hoping to raise more than £310 but felt that raising £5 for every mile I will walk (62 is the target and hope to exceed that) would be a modest but reasonable target. 🙏

Gill was very kind to us when we moved into the village in 1984. She invited us to a Philips Norton Players party in her garden and we were able to meet lots of neighbours. We were soon members of the Players ourselves! Great memories… Thanks Gill, what a spark!

Good luck my friend - great cause. My mummy is still here in the physical sense but this cruel disease has locked her away from us all - it’s very sad. Love to you both.
