I'm walking 62 miles in May

I’m walking 62 miles in May and raising funds so that families affected by dementia get the specialist help and advice they need. I would be grateful for your support.

An £8 donation can cover the telephone costs of two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.

Thank you!

*Walking for Mum – And for Every Family Facing Dementia*

Wednesday 7th May

Every morning between 6 and 8am, you'll find me out walking 5–7 miles with my best mate Dexter – a 9-stone Rhodesian Ridgeback with a serious fan base!

Along our route we meet a lovely crew of furry friends and like-minded owners. But this May, our walks have a deeper purpose.

I’m walking 62 miles for Dementia UK to raise funds for families like mine – families navigating the often confusing, emotional and at times unexpectedly funny world of dementia.

My mum – the matriarch of our family and the eldest of eight siblings – was diagnosed in 2020. She’s 84 now, and like so many others, she’s finding things tough. Dementia doesn't just affect the person living with it – it changes life for everyone around them. That's why the work Dementia UK does is so vital.

Their free Helpline offers advice and support when families are desperate for answers. Their specialist Admiral Nurses are a lifeline, offering practical solutions, emotional support, and a steady hand when the ground feels shaky.

To give you an idea:

£8 could cover the cost of two vital support calls.

£33 could fund an hour with an Admiral Nurse, helping a family just like mine find their feet.

I know times are tight, but if you can spare anything at all, it would mean the world. Every step I take this May is for Mum – and for the millions of others who will walk this road.

One in two of us will be affected by dementia in our lifetime. Let’s make that road just a little easier for those who follow.

Thank you for reading – and yes, there have been some hilarious moments (turns out dementia sometimes removes the filter completely 😅). We hold onto the laughter where we can.
