I'm walking 60 Miles in June for Dementia UK

This June, I'm walking 60 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

My Nannan

Tuesday 12th May
They say grief is the price we pay for love, but watching dementia steal my Nannan piece by piece feels like a debt that never ends.

Only a couple of years ago, she had a life. Today, her world is gone.

In the past 6 months, she lost my hero, my Grandad, her anchor and her carer. With him went her independence, her beautiful home, and the dogs she adored. Because she could no longer care for herself, she now sits in a care home, staring at faces she no longer recognizes.

It is soul crushing to see our "Queen" lose her kingdom. This is the woman who worked for AstraZeneca, who commanded a village pub with a smile, who found peace on canal boats, and who danced the jive with a grace that took your breath away. She was a woman of nature, of intelligence, and of deep, vibrant love.

Now, when I look into her eyes, she isn’t there. The woman who cheered for us and loved her family is a shell of the person she once was. There is no heartache quite like standing in front of someone who you’ve loved and adored fiercely, and realizing you are now a stranger to them.

So I am walking 60 miles this June for Dementia UK.

I’ve only set my target at £50 because I know how many people are struggling, and I wasn't sure if anyone would understand this specific pain. But even if I only raise that small amount, I need to know I’ve done something. I need to know that her struggle and the slow, silent disappearing of everything she stood for wasn't for nothing.
