I'm taking part in the November Swim Challenge

I’m taking part in the November Swim Challenge for Dementia UK and raising funds for families affected by dementia. I would be grateful for your support.

£33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.

Thank you!

Final Swim

Sunday 30th Nov

Final swim

Sunday 30th Nov
What a fabulous day to complete my 15km. 10.5⁰C in the water, about 6⁰C on land. Beautiful blue skies.

Frustrated!

Thursday 27th Nov

Had planned to complete my 15km yesterday since I’m working all weekend but when I arrived at the beach it was a _lot_ choppier than I was expecting from the forecast. Started my swim and felt the chill straightaway thanks to a very chilly wind and it was hard going. My trace shows how I was going sideways as much as forward!

But halfway through the swim choppy became _rough_, I was swallowing water every time I tried to breath because the wave break pattern was so unpredictable. It felt like it was building to storm conditions. It was also getting dark early.  So I had to bale out.

I had 1396m to go and I’d done 1435m on Monday so I’d felt confident I could do similar yesterday, but the sea can be fickle, and it just wasn’t to be… I have 504m left, I will need to try to squeeze that in after work on Sunday but I hate leaving it so close to the wire!

Update

Saturday 22nd Nov
So my Garmin automatically uploads my swims to this site but there's a couple of glitches.
1. It started recording before the start of November so its included October swims and
2. There was a swim where my watch died and I had to switch to Strava on my phone mid-water (without dropping my phone in the briny!)
So here's a more precise record of where I am and how far I've got left.
4,221m to go in my 3 remaining swims - lets hope the weather holds out and the sea temps don't drop any lower!

Yesterday’s chilly swim

Tuesday 18th Nov

Two-thirds done but getting chilly 🥶

Tuesday 18th Nov
Beautiful but cold swim 1.8km today. Calm sea, sun, blue skies. 12.5⁰C in the water about 10⁰C on land falling to 3⁰C after the swim. Struggled to get dressed because my fingers were completely frozen.
Thanks so much to Aud for providing good company, being an excellent pace marker and for your cash donation which I will add later today.
Have now completed about 10.8km of my 15km goal. Will be interesting to see if I can stay in long enough to get the other 4.2km if temps continue to drop. I have about 3 swim opportunities left to get there.
