I'm taking on the October Dog Walking Challenge

Dementia sucks and it has affected my family, as my dad was diagnosed with advanced Alzheimer's a few years ago. In the last year, I have watched my hero slowly fade into a shell of a man with limited communication skills, unable to feed himself and now bed bound.

I’m walking 75 miles with my dog George this October and raising funds for families like mine who are affected by dementia. I would be grateful for your support.

An £8 donation could cover the telephone costs of two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.

Thank you!

My Updates

Ready for day three

Friday 3rd Oct
Rainy day, but we did not let that stop us from going out and getting some fresh air and work on my mental health. Life is tough at the moment but getting out with George brings a little more light and happiness.

Dementia walk 2

Thursday 2nd Oct
Second walk of the month, needed to clear my mind as visited dad today who is actually stable and was very funny and chatty. I find it hard that some days you see a glimpse of the man he was and others a vacant stare in to nowhere.
George and I walked this evening around our local area taking in the silence and calm.

Walk 1

Wednesday 1st Oct
October has started and George is ready for a challenge. The last month has been an emotional roller coaster. We have been told twice to prepare ourselves for the worst but then within a few days my amazing but incredibly stubborn dad, comes back fighting. I have found it mentally hard and have struggled to cope.
I know my dad will never get better but I hope by raising awareness and supporting the Dementia charity we may have hope in the future.
Well done George on your first walk and Grandad would be proud of you.
