I'm running 100K for Dementia UK

I’ve never been much of a runner - In fact, traditionally, I hated running! (Still do!)

I tried ‘Couch to 5K’ several times and my shins would not allow it so the thought of running 100k in 28 days is a terrifying one…

Full disclosure, I did finally manage to get through the ‘Couch to 5k’ programme and have been running a fair bit over the past few months. I’ve done a few Parkruns (A 5k around the local park for the uninitiated) and even managed the Leeds ‘Abbey Dash’ last year but 100k in 28 days!? I’ve not done anything on this level before

Anyway, I wanted to challenge myself a bit and let’s raise some money for Dementia UK along the way.

Dementia had such a huge impact on my late Grandma, it completely changed her in such a short period of time. Dementia is also still having its say in my life for other reasons and so this cause is something very close to me

I have never fundraised alone for anything before in my life, I REALLY hate asking people for money  and I’m terrified of not getting my target , please prove me wrong on this.
I know it’s so soon after Christmas and we’re all skint, cold and full of  mince pies and wine but a couple of quid can make a massive difference

This challenge is going to kick my ass but I’m determined to do it, I’ll be posting updates throughout February

Thanks for reading and if you donated anything, I REALLY appreciate it x

Day 15 - Run 10

Saturday 15th Feb
🏃‍♂️ 100K for Dementia UK 🏃‍♂️ DONE!!! 100K RUN FOR DEMENTIA UK 💪😮‍💨😲 I was worried I would struggle to get this done in the 28 days of February and I’ve done it in 15! absolutely delighted….and knackered! Mainly knackered To everyone who has sponsored me, liked/shared my posts and sent me messages of motivation, I can’t thank you enough. You genuinely got me through this 🤩 🙏 In total (including Dog walks/daily activities etc) I’ve covered 203.71km (126.58 miles) in 15 days - 13.58km per day average (8.43 miles) - Less than a year ago, I was struggling to run for 1 minute! 🤯 STATS: Total Distance: 100.10km (62.199 miles) Total Steps: 260,625 Total, total distance: 203.71km (126.58 miles) Total Calories Burnt: 13,394 Total Run Time: 10:31:23 Total Raised: £1294 Total Raised by this challenge: £154,214

Day 14 - Run 9

Friday 14th Feb
🏃‍♂️ 100k for Dementia UK 🏃‍♂️ After clocking 15k for the first time on Tuesday, injuries took a hold which meant I enjoyed an extra rest day. Honestly, nearly everything hurt on Wednesday morning Feeling a bit stronger today so went out to get the 5k that means I can finish this challenge tomorrow at Harrogate parkrun! STATS: Total Distance: 95.06 Kilometres Total Steps: 245,246

Day 11 - Run 8

Tuesday 11th Feb
🏃‍♂️ 100k for Dementia UK 🏃‍♂️ Nearly there now! Just over 10k to go and I’m hoping to finish when I cross the finish line at Harrogate parkrun on Saturday I ran to my friend Paul Taylor’s house tonight, my longest run of the challenge but a bit gutted that the map didn’t save for some reason! Technology eh!? Does that mean it doesn’t count!? (Don’t answer that!) STATS: Total Distance: 89.37km Total Steps: 206,903

Day 9 - Run 7

Sunday 9th Feb
🏃‍♂️ 100K for Dementia UK 🏃‍♂️ That one hurt. Rest days are important 😬 Knackered! 😮‍💨 Thanks to Phil & Craig for dragging me round STATS: Total Distance: 74.29k Total Steps: 169,914

Day 8 - Run 6

Saturday 8th Feb
Lake loops

Day 8 - Run 5 (park run)

Saturday 8th Feb
🏃‍♂️ 100K for Dementia UK 🏃‍♂️ Back at it this morning, at Roundhay parkrun - Taking advantage of the last weekend before the parking charges come in - DAMN YOU LEEDS CITY COUNCIL *Shakes Fist* Like Temple Newsam parkrun last weekend, Roundhay is a toughie, 3 times up that bloody hill 😪 - I’m not making this easy for myself am I? 1 week in now and feeling good, over 130k raised for Dementia UK between everyone taking part in this challenge. STATS: Total Distance: 60.02K Total Steps: 148,058 🚨 NEW STAT ALERT 🚨 Total Calories Burnt: 7,679

Day 6 - Run 4

Thursday 6th Feb
🏃‍♂️ 100K for Dementia UK 🏃‍♂️ 🎉 Wooahh oooooh, We’re half way there 🎉 6 days in and we’ve just racked up 50K! 😀 Out again tonight with St Theresas Athletic Club - I planned on a shorter, gentler one tonight but couldn’t resist ticking it over the 50k mark (Assisted by some laps round a Premier Inn car park resulting in some bemused onlookers) I also lost 1/2 a kilometre after forgetting to restart my watch following some shoe stone removal - So this has become my 100.5K challenge for Dementia UK 🤣 STATS: Total Distance: 50.01K Total Steps: 114,444

Day 4 - Run 3

Tuesday 4th Feb
🏃‍♂️ 100K for Dementia UK 🏃‍♂️ Back out again tonight, this time with St Theresas Athletic Club for another 10k (almost!) All together we’ve raised almost £115,000 and we’re only 4 days in to the month 👏 Massive thanks to everyone who has donated, liked, shared or given words of encouragement, it’s really appreciated STATS: Total Distance: 39.26k Total Steps: 81,778

Day 2 - Run 2

Sunday 2nd Feb
This was the hardest run I’ve ever done, felt like I was running in treacle from about 7km - This is the first time I’ve done anywhere near this much mileage on consecutive days. However, I was buoyed by your generation donations, kind messages and Leeds absolutely spanking Cardiff was excellent for the spirits too! I’m supporting Dementia UK as it had a huge impact on my family. It took away my Grandma’s spirit and independence in such a short period of time - So today on my run I was thinking about her. I ran to the flat she lived in while I was growing up, the house she moved into and finally the care home where she spent the last couple of years of her life after Dementia meant she could no longer safely look after herself

First run

Saturday 1st Feb
🏃‍♂️ 100k for Dementia UK 🏃‍♂️ Well, February is here and so begins my 100k challenge A HUGE thank you to everyone who has donated so far, it means the world! I can’t believe I’ve gone over 1k - Unbelievable! After attending a gig last night, I was a little bit worse for wear this morning but I was determined to make a sizeable dent in that formidable target So…I ran to Temple Newsam parkrun before completing the parkrun and then running home. Tempsy parkrun is tough enough on its own, so running there and back as well on very little sleep was HARD! STATS: Total Distance: 14.89km Total Steps: 18, 824
