Testimonials

"My father was a lifelong Manchester United fan, and his ashes are scattered on the pitch at Old Trafford. We decided to walk from our home ground in Nantwich to Old Trafford. I took part with my nine-year-old son, Ferguson. Seeing Ferguson walk down the tunnel towards the pitch where his grandad's ashes are scattered was the perfect finish line. It's a memory that will last a lifetime for both of us."

Nick

"Do it! It’s tough but it’ll be one of the best things you’ll ever do. The support from the football community, from clubs to fans, friends and family was phenomenal."

Manny

"I would recommend Fans vs Dementia to any football fans. Admiral Nurses are so valuable to families living with dementia. I wouldn’t hesitate to take part again and I know my friends will too."

FAQs

Can I register as a team?

add remove

Absolutely! There's an option on the registration form to create a team and as team captain, you can invite others to join.

Where and when is the challenge?

add remove
The beauty of the challenge is that you get to decide where and when you'll do it and the distance you'll cover. Assemble your squad, agree a fixture date and route that works for everybody, and go for it! You've got until the season wraps up in May to complete your walk, over as many days as you need.

Is there an entry fee?

add remove
No – taking part is completely free!

How do I claim iron-on letters to personalise my top?

add remove

Once you have raised £380 (excluding Gift Aid) on your personal fundraising page, we'll drop you an email. You can tell us the name you'd like to receive or choose one of the following phrases:
For Mum
For Dad
For Grandma
For Grandad

We'll post the iron-on letters to you so you can personalise your top to wear on your walk or to future matches.

Do my donations go to Dementia UK?

add remove
Yes. Donations made through Funraisin – our secure online fundraising platform – are sent to Dementia UK.

Like most online donations, your donation is subject to a standard payment processing fee charged by our payment provider, Stripe. This fee is typically 1.4% of the donation + 25p per UK card transaction.

Dementia UK does not pay any platform fees for donations made through Funraisin. The platform is funded through the optional contributions that some donors choose to make.

Why am I being asked to add an optional contribution when donating?

add remove
When you donate through Funraisin, you will see the option to add a voluntary contribution alongside your donation.

This optional contribution helps cover the running costs of Funraisin, including payment technology, fraud protection, customer support, ongoing platform improvements and compliance. If you choose to contribute, you will help cover these costs so Funraisin can continue to provide a free fundraising platform for Dementia UK and other charities.

Do I have to pay the optional contribution?

add remove
No. The contribution is completely voluntary.

If you'd rather not add it, simply select 'I don't wish to help cover costs' during the donation process. Your donation will still be processed and sent to Dementia UK, and choosing not to contribute will not affect your donation or your fundraising experience.
