I'm taking part in the November Swim Challenge

I’m taking part in the November Swim Challenge for Dementia UK and raising funds for families affected by dementia. I would be grateful for your support.

£33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.

Thank you!

Challenge completed!! Total raised so far £233

Thursday 27th Nov
Well, that went well then! Not only did I complete the challenge to swim 10K in November,  but I reset my target to 15K, and surpassed that too!
Thanks to absolutely everyone who has supported me in some way,  & that includes, verbal support & encouragement,  as well as donations to Dementia UK.
It just goes to show, sometimes, we can do more than we first believe 😊 xx

1 day to go!!

Wednesday 26th Nov
Tomorrow Thursday 27/11/25, is my last challenge day,  as by late morning I would have completed (and I can't believe I'm writing this!!!!!) 15K swim for Dementia.  That's quite unbelievable 😳 😱

1925m to go!!

Tuesday 25th Nov
Almost there!  I'm booked in Wednesday morning, before yoga, and my final swim to complete the 15K challenge, should be the Thursday morning swim.

10K done! 🙌 15K... HERE I COME!!!

WOW 'FIFTY' LENGTHS!

Thursday 20th Nov
Well, today I really surprised myself. The swimming pool clock wasn't up on the wall, so although I knew what time I arrived, 7.30am,  I lost track during my swim. I only had my manual counter to gauge how time may be going.  I'd completed 41 lengths, so thought my hour was nearly up. I did far more crawl than backstroke today, so must have been going faster overall. I asked the lifeguard what the time was, & couldn't believe that I still had 15 more minutes left, so carried on to 50! Chuffed to bits.

8615 I'm getting there!

Tuesday 18th Nov
Today's swim, furthest & fastest I've done in one session, with half of it backstroke,  half crawl.
I completed 48 lengths today.
So pleased to say, that  I only have 1385m to go to reach my 10k target!
Thank you to all of you for your encouragement & donations x

Well over half way!

Tuesday 11th Nov
Well, that feels good, I'm now over half way, with a total of 6415 metres so far.  I'm only entering whole km's at a time on the app, to simplify the recording.  Once the extra laps I've done each visit equal 1k, I'll add that in separately.
I really can't believe I have actually completed such a distance,  as I only started swimming proper lengths & counting them at the end of September.
Thank you all for your generous donations!!! X

1k under my swim cap already!

Sunday 2nd Nov
First day today, of my 10K swim challenge during November.  Felt really good to be able to put these lengths on my page at last. All the training lengths,  although properly completed,  obviously wouldn't count towards my November total. So, now, the counting begins!
Few adjustments needed, as  I wore ny Dementia swim cap, and left my earplugs out. Water did get in my ears a bit, so need to still use earplugs.  The swim cap trapped air in amongst my dry hair, so that felt rather odd, noisy underwater , and I didn't feel so streamlined as without the cap. Not sure if wetting my hair first will solve that.
Few more slower swimmers today, which means I have to abort a length here & there, and cross lanes to return, so I'm not counting any incomplete lengths, so have an accurate count. I did do 42 full  lengths, which means 1040 mtrs complete today! Feeling quite pleased.
Thanks everyone for inspiring me. Rita x

Swim cap has arrived

Monday 13th Oct
Well, looks like I should be more streamlined now I have my swim cap, from Dementia UK 😁
Today was a tricky practice swim. Instead of about 4-5  people in the small pool, there were EIGHT! 😳
It was, to say the least rather congested.
Still, even though I was swimming diagonally at times, to avoid people, I kept going.
Hopefully tomorrow is less busy.
I've also ordered a mechanical counter, as Im rubbish at keeping count of laps. After all,  I don't want to do too many do I? 🤭
Thanks for all your support & encouragement, it really is helping! X

breaststroke/backstroke

Tuesday 7th Oct
Morning guys,
This morning I have had another training session, mainly breaststroke & backstroke.  I've attempted crawl again, but really struggling with the breathing technique.  Watched a guy swimming really smoothly doing crawl, he glided wonderfully through the water. I think that helped a tad, but will be studying more utubes to try to gliiiiide better!🤭

Well it all starts here!

Saturday 4th Oct
Thank you, to all of you who have sponsored me, and supported this charity.  I'm going to be increasing my training time from now on, so that I'm able to complete my challenge in November.   I'm sure from being in the water so much more, I will be even more wrinkly than I am now!!! 🏊‍♂️😂🤭
