I'm taking part in the November Swim Challenge

I’m taking part in the November Swim Challenge for Dementia UK, raising funds to support families like mine who are affected by dementia.

Throughout November, I’ll be swimming 10km at my local pool and at work, and I’d be so grateful for your support. 💙

As a family, we know just how tough the journey can be for those living with dementia and their loved ones, and I want to do my bit to help in some small way.

Thank you so much for any support, it really means a lot!

Swim 2 and 3 update 🏊‍♀️

Wednesday 26th Nov
Swim 2 was back at Park Road Pools, and Swim 3 was at the school pool. I was struck down with the lurgy and have been out of action for about two weeks, which has really knocked my swimming off course. I’ve been reassured that I can carry on into December though, so hopefully I’ll still reach my target.

My first swim back after being ill was rough and I only managed 20 lengths. Today at school I managed 35 lengths, which felt like progress, but I’m definitely still not 100%. Breathing was a real challenge, but I’m going to keep going and do what I can.

Today I completed my first swim for the November Swim Challenge for Dementia UK — 1km, which is 40 lengths of a 25m pool. It was tough at the start, fine in the middle, and tough again towards the end… but I was so excited in those final laps, knowing I was nearly done for the day and doing it for such a good cause.

Thoughts during my swim:
“Should I go in the fast lane? …Okay, let’s do it! Oh dear, people are overtaking me — maybe the middle lane is better. Actually, no — I’m faster than this! Back to the fast lane!” 😅

Somewhere between those lane changes, I found myself thinking how lucky I am that Mum is still around and that we can still share lovely moments together. I’m so grateful for the work Dementia UK does to support families like ours — their helpline has been such a lifeline for me, and I know for so many others too.

This challenge has already been so rewarding — not just because of the swims, but because of the conversations it’s started. I’ve spoken to so many people who’ve been through something similar, and others who are learning more about dementia for the first time. It’s been really moving to share stories and raise awareness together.

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported and donated so far — I’ve been blown away by your generosity. 💙

On to the next swim!
