Im walking 62 miles in October, In Loving Memory of My Grandma

Sunday 28th Sep
To mark the one year anniversary of my Grandma’s passing. I’m taking on this challenge and supporting Dementia UK.

Losing a loved one is never easy, losing them to dementia is one of the cruellest forms of grief because it feels like a slow, drawn-out goodbye. You don’t just lose them once, you lose them little by little, as their memories fade, their words slip away, and the person you once knew becomes harder to reach. It’s heartbreaking to watch their independence vanish and to realise that moments you shared, which once bound you together, are no longer present in their mind. Dementia robs both the person living with it and those who love them, stealing conversations, shared laughter, and the comfort of recognition. You grieve not only for their eventual passing, but for the gradual erosion of connection, identity, and the relationship that once felt unshakable.

I dedicate this to you Gma
