I'm walking 62 miles in May

I’m walking a minimum of 62 miles in May and raising funds so that families affected by dementia get the specialist help and advice they need. I would be grateful for your support.

An £8 donation can cover the telephone costs of two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.

Thank you!

Day 28 - Final Target Distance Reached - 310 miles

Wednesday 28th May
Day 28 and I've reached what I set as my final target distance - 310 miles (average of 10 per day over 31 days of May).
Scenic walk for last activity around London's docklands - so a pleasant waterfront backdrop.
Will still continue with current pace until 31 May and see what final total I end up with, but regardless will continue after (maybe at a more leisurely pace) even once the challenge has finished as feeling so much better for all of the exercise and fresh air. Been so lucky with glorious weather for most of May,

Final HUGE thanks to all of my extremely generous sponsors, donating to such a worthy cause.

Day 23 - Final Target Distance Update to 310 miles

Friday 23rd May
Just completed a 6am 5 mile park walk on a fresh, gloriously sunny morning, which took me to my last target of 250 miles, so updating my target distance one final time to 310 miles (which will average 10 miles per day by end of May), to see if I can get there by 31 May.
Amazing that even in London, 6am in the park you just get the sound of birdsong and not traffic. Great way to get into the right headspace for the day ahead.
One final thanks again to all of my very generous sponsors, for supporting me raise funds for this super worthy cause :-)

Day 18 - Afternoon Walk Completed - Updating Target to 250 miles

Sunday 18th May
Just completed another 5 miles park walk this afternoon, taking me past my last target of 186 miles (6 miles per day).
Have therefore updated with a new target of 250 miles, which will result in average of 8 miles per day by end of May,
If I reach this early, will adjust again.
Still having fun raising funds for this very worthy cause,
Another huge thanks to an increasing number of very generous sponsors, currently taking my total raised to over £500 - it is all truly appreciated.

Day 17 Morning Walk

Saturday 17th May
Day 17 - Glorious morning for a 5 mile park walk .

Still loving the participation in this Dementia UK fundraising event

Up to 180 miles now, so I will up my target distance again and see how far I can get by 31 May.

BIG shout out to the folks at Second Nature too (an NHS partner program for people diagnosed as pre-diabetes), especially my program coach Renate.

Has been a great experience since mid January, turning healthy choices around exercise, diet and sleep, stress and anxiety management into repeatable daily habits. Feeling so much better for it and 12kg lighter a couple of inches narrower in the waistline.

Looking forward to the rest of the months walking activities.

Increasing my target distance again - to 186 miles

Tuesday 13th May
Still having loads of fun and staying active with regular daily walks and will do so until the end of May for this worthy cause.
Decided to increase my target again to 186 miles - so 6 miles per day.
If I achieve that, will consider increasing again while all goes well with my walking:-)
HUGE thanks again to all of my generous sponsors.

Increased my target distance

Wednesday 7th May
As I reached the initial 62 miles at the end of Day 5 have increased my target distance to 100 miles as I continue and will further adjust depending on how well it's going throughout May.

Day 5 - Walk 2 Completed - 62 Miles Completed

Monday 5th May
Day 5 - Walk 2 Completed - 62 Miles Completed.

Nice to have banked all of the generous donations for Dementia UK, will continue walking for exercise through the rest of May and continue wearing my Dementia UK T-shirt to put it in the minds of those I walk past.

A HUGE thank you to all of my very generous sponsors (family, Andrea & Mohammad), others feel free to continue to donate if you wish. As my eldest son Adam jokingly mentioned - "glad I didn't sponsor you per mile" ;-)

Blessed with glorious weather for the 5 days of the challenge so far, except for a welcome and refreshing light shower for the last 2 miles of this afternoon's activity that took me over the 62 mile target :-)

My profile picture is from my favourite walk so far this year to the summit of Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh, with the support and  great company of my youngest son Ellis just before he set off for Rio de Janeiro for six months.
A beautiful day weather wise as bright, sunny and not too warm.
