Walk 50 Miles in January 2026

I'm walking 50 Miles in January for Dementia UK

This January, I'm walking 50 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

A Charity Close to Our Hearts
There are some causes you support because they matter, and others you support because they’ve quietly become part of your family’s story. For us, this charity is very much the latter.
Our nan has always been the heart of our family. She’s the one who remembered every birthday, made the best cups of tea, and somehow always knew when one of us needed a hug. She is warmth, kindness, and familiarity. Watching dementia slowly take pieces of that away from her has been one of the hardest things we’ve ever faced.
Dementia doesn’t arrive all at once. It creeps in gently—misplaced words, forgotten names, stories repeated twice, then three times. At first, it’s easy to brush off. But over time, those small moments grow into something heavier. Conversations become harder. Memories fade. The roles slowly reverse, and the people who once cared for you now need care themselves.
This charity has been a lifeline during that journey.
They don’t just offer support for people living with dementia; they support entire families. They provide information when everything feels confusing, reassurance when things feel overwhelming, and understanding when words are hard to find. Knowing that we’re not alone—that there are people who truly understand what this illness does, both to those diagnosed and to the people who love them—has meant more than we can put into words.
Most importantly, this charity helps us remember that our nan is still our nan. Dementia may change how she communicates or remembers, but it doesn’t change who she is at her core. The laughter still breaks through. The smiles still matter. The love is still there.
That’s why this cause is so close to our hearts. It’s about dignity. It’s about compassion. It’s about making sure that no one facing dementia feels forgotten or unsupported.
By supporting this charity, we’re supporting families like ours. We’re supporting carers, loved ones, and people living with dementia today—and those who will face it in the future. We’re helping fund research, improve care, and spread awareness, so that one day fewer families will have to walk this path.
We support this charity for our nan.
And for every nan, grandad, parent, partner, and friend living with dementia.
If sharing her story helps even one person feel less alone, then it’s worth it.
