I'm walking 31 Miles in May for Dementia UK

This May, I'm walking 31 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

My Updates

Headline: 👩‍🦽 8.17 Miles Smashed This Morning for David! 🤍

Tuesday 26th May
Good morning everyone,
I wanted to share a quick update on my 31-mile challenge for the DementiaUk. This morning, I got out early and pushed through to finish 8.17 miles!
To be completely honest, playing catch-up on my miles physically takes an immense amount out of me. There are days when my body is entirely drained, but when the road gets tough, I think about my late partner, David, who lived with dementia and passed away. We were together for nearly eleven years, and being his caregiver showed me firsthand the heartbreak and challenges of this condition.
The deep love I have for him, and the memory of what he went through, is the engine that gives me the strength to push forward even when I am exhausted.
I am doing these miles directly in David's honor, to raise awareness and to make sure no other caregiver or family feels invisible or abandoned in the dark. Every single step counts. Thank you all so much for the love, community, and support in this group—it keeps me moving! 💪✨

Motivation for rolling 31 miles for Dementia

Friday 1st May
I am rolling 31 miles this May in memory of David, the man I spent 10 years and 10 months loving and caring for. I was by his side through every stage of his dementia journey, from the very first signs to the very end.
My motivation is to honor the bond we shared and to keep his name alive. In a world where people often try to rewrite the stories of those who have passed, these miles are a testament to the real, lived legacy of the care I provided for him every single day.
I am also rolling as a tribute to the 'Invisible Caregivers.' I know what it feels like to give your heart and soul to someone with dementia when the world isn't watching, and often when you feel unsupported or unheard. I want to show that our work matters.
Finally, this is about personal resilience. Despite my own health challenges, being a wheelchair user, and navigating deep grief , I am choosing to show up. I am turning my pain into purpose to ensure that David’s memory continues to help others through the vital work of Dementia UK."

Day 1

♿ 31 Miles in May: My Journey for David

Friday 17th Apr
Starting May 1st, I am taking on a challenge that means the world to me. I will be rolling 31 miles in my wheelchair throughout the month to raise funds and awareness for dementia.
I’m doing this for David.
The Mission
Dementia is a tough road for everyone involved. By taking on these 31 miles, I want to honor David’s journey and contribute to the vital research and support services that help so many families.
Why I’m Rolling
This isn't just about the distance; it’s about showing that determination has no limits. Pushing 31 miles is a challenge I’m ready to meet because:
David deserves it: This is my way of keeping his story moving forward.
Awareness matters: I want to highlight the need for dementia support and the importance of accessibility.
Every mile counts: I’ll be tracking every single push on the Strava app to make sure we reach that 31-mile finish line!
How You Can Support Me
I would be so grateful if you could join me on this journey:
Donate: Every pound/dollar helps the fight against dementia.
Follow Along: I’ll be sharing my Strava updates and progress right here.
Encourage: A quick "keep going" goes a long way when the miles get tough!
Thank you for being part of this with me. Let’s make May a month to remember for David!
