I'm walking 30 Miles in September for Dementia UK

This September, I'm walking 30 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

Aneta and Katie’s big walk

Tuesday 18th Aug
Walking for the people who made the last 10 years so special 💙

For nearly 10 years, Aneta and I have worked together on a dementia floor, and when we look back, it’s hard to believe just how many people we’ve shared that time with.

What started as a job became so much more than that. We laughed, cried, probably stressed over far too many things 😂, and made memories that we’ll genuinely carry with us forever.

Working in dementia care isn’t always easy, but it is incredibly special. You get to know people in a way that goes far beyond their diagnosis. You learn their favourite songs, their little routines, the things that make them laugh, what calms them when they’re worried and all those tiny details that make them them.

Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of caring for so many wonderful people and getting to know their families too. We’ve celebrated birthdays, shared silly moments, held hands through difficult days and sometimes just sat quietly with someone when that was all they needed.

There have been some truly hilarious moments along the way too, because anyone who has worked in dementia care will know there is NEVER a dull day! 😂

Most importantly, we’ve always wanted the people we cared for to feel safe, loved, listened to and valued. To see the person, not the dementia.

So this September, Aneta and I are doing our dementia walk together. 💙

We’re walking for all the people we’ve cared for over the years, for their families, for everyone currently living with dementia and for all the amazing carers who show up every day and make a difference.

Ten years, countless memories and so many people who have left a little piece of themselves with us.

We’re really proud of the work we’ve done together, and even prouder to be able to keep raising awareness for something that has been such a huge part of our lives.

Here’s to the people who taught us so much, made us laugh, challenged us, inspired us and reminded us every day why dementia care matters.

This walk is for all of you. 💙
