2026 November Swim Challenge

I'm taking part in the November Swim Challenge

This November, I'll be braving the cold and swimming 15km to help raise awareness and money for a cause that has become very close to my heart.

If you'd like to support my challenge, I'd be incredibly grateful for any donation or for simply sharing this post to help spread awareness. 💙

£33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.

Thank you!

Dusk swim

Tuesday 3rd Nov
Really lovely autumnal evening and the big skies over the swimming pool were an array of beautiful colours. Didnt take away from the fact it is cold. I am definitely slow to start due to my body and breathing getting regulated in the pool. I have ordered a paid of thermal swimming gloves as by 30 mins in the pool my fingers are starting to hurt from cold.

Challenge Starter !

Sunday 1st Nov
Beautiful and cold November morning - busy in the pool, great to see so many people embracing the cold swim.

Sunday morning swim

Sunday 18th Oct
I completed my first early morning, outdoor, swim today - I was up early for porridge and to make my flash of tea for post-swim. It was a chilly start and I now realise I underestimated how long it would take my body to get used to actually swimming strokes in the cold. It didn't help that I forgot my woolly hat and I always swim outdoors in the colder months with my hat. So a few things I need for my kit but I did it! And I managed 800m in half an hour which was a relief and has made me feel happier about being able to get it done in the time I have allowed.

Thank you !

Thursday 15th Oct
I am super chuffed to have smashed through my target donation, thank you for the support from far and wide, I am sat here eating my porridge looking out the window and the chilly morning. This weekend will be my first swim knowing I am doing this challenge so I will be seeing how long it actually takes me to do 60 lengths......

Tonbridge Swimming Pool are awesome!

Wednesday 14th Oct
Today I emailed the Tonbridge outdoor pool to ask about the most economical way to swim with them 4 times a week (as it would currently cost me just shy of £100 over the month), I explained my cause and they came straight back with this email. Sometimes people can be brilliant, perhaps we just have to ask.

Hi Kate,

Thank you for your email.
What a fantastic charity to be raising money for! I’m delighted to confirm that we will arrange a complimentary one-month membership for you, commencing on 1 November 2026, to support you in completing your challenge.
We wish you the very best of luck with your challenge and hope you enjoy your time with us.
Kind regards

15km outdoor swimming over November

Tuesday 13th Oct

This November, I'm taking on a challenge to swim 15km in Tonbridge outdoor swimming pool to raise money and awareness for dementia.

Dementia is something that has affected my family this year, and it's made me aware of just how much this condition can impact not only the person diagnosed, but also the people who love and care for them.

A few important facts about dementia:

  • Dementia isn't a normal part of ageing. It's an umbrella term for symptoms caused by diseases that damage the brain.

  • Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia, but there are several different types.

  • Dementia affects more than memory. It can also affect communication, thinking, behaviour and the ability to manage everyday activities.

  • There is currently no cure for most dementias, although treatments and support can help people manage symptoms, and some treatments can slow progression in certain cases.

  • Research suggests that up to 45% of dementia cases worldwide may be linked to risk factors that could be modified. While dementia can't always be prevented, there are things we can do to help reduce our risk.

Regular exercise is one of them, staying physically active can help support brain health and reduce the risk of developing dementia.
