I'm swimming for Dementia UK

I'm taking on a 30-Day Swimming Challenge and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be extremely grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Please donate whatever you are able to, and share with family and friends.

Thank you!

Day 8

Monday 10th Aug
Making up for lost time.  Pool was very quiet tonight so just kept going for an hour and 30 mins(ish).  Managed 120, and gutted when I did the maths that if I had only done 5 more I would have done 2000ms, but happy to settle for 1920. Doubt I will top that.

Day 7

Sunday 9th Aug
Birthday preps over now so picked up the slack.  50 lengths again today so only 800 metres but back on track.  Should crack 10k this week but intend to keep going until the end of the month.

Day 6

Thursday 6th Aug
Started with all good intentions but ended up being tied up in Fairy First Birthday Party preps!  Hubby and Granddaughter number 2 (Wanbees) joint birthday tomorrow so couldn't fit a swim in tonight.  Frustrating but already at 7km and well ahead of schedule so can afford to take a break .  Gutted, but will make it up.

Day 5

Wednesday 5th Aug
Earlier start today, 7pm, had a bit longer in the pool so decided to just go with it.  Dave joined in my final 15 lengths,  and until then I swam with an equally serious lady, very fast and just keeps going.   I'd never match her for speed, but I might have matched her on distance...100 lengths tonight so 1600 more metres nearer to the target.  Thanks to all my sponsors,  I have just tipped over the £100 mark which is amazing.

Day 4

Tuesday 4th Aug
Later tonight, session started at 2000 due to Aquafit Class just before.  A couple of the ladies from the class decided to stay on for another hour, to take a nice little stroll up and down in the pool, so tonight involved some ducking and diving around them.  This was thd adult swim session for serious swimmers, but I hadn't taken account of the fact that adulthood starts at 18, but not necessarily maturity!  4 lads dove in,  handstands and lots of splashing ensued!  Then, thank goodness,  another serious swimmer,  Dave, joined us and spent the next hour breastroking at great speed,  which soon drove them away!  80 lengths,  still can't get my fitbit or strava to record the distance properly so you'll just have to take my word for it!!

Day 3

Monday 3rd Aug
First Day having to do this after a full day at work.  Pool session tonight started at 7pm, swam for just under an hour.  Some serious competition in the pool tonight, 3 of us just seemed determined to outswim each other haha.  I took it steady and managed 70 lengths before admitting defeat....my poor skin more wrinkly than it normally is!

Day 2

Sunday 2nd Aug
Second day, worried if I can match my great start yesterday.   It was a struggle at first, seemed so many to do, but just kept swimming for an hour and 20 minutes.  Other swimmers came and went, some faster, some slower, and I had the pool to myself for the last 16 lengths.  Managed 100 lengths, total of 1600 metres towards my aim of 10000.  Might get a couple of days off later in the month at this rate!

Day 1

Saturday 1st Aug
The cocktail temptation paid off!! 80 lengths!  16m pool, so that's 1280m today,  way over what I was anticipating I would do!   That won't happen every day but happy to have made a good start.  Only 8720m to go haha!

it HAS to be easier than skipping!

Monday 29th Jun
So, having very nearly crippled myself completing the 100 skips a day challenge,  I am taking on the swim to raise funds in support  of Dementia UK.  Training started last week  in Crete, with my very own lifeguard, Hoff, in attendance!  Start the actual challenge on 1st August.   Please support this valuable cause in any way you can, sharing and liking will spur  me on!
