Walk 50 Miles in January 2026

I'm walking 50 Miles in January for Dementia UK

This January, I'm walking 50 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

My Updates

31st January

Saturday 31st Jan
Finished, although the weather hasn't been kind to us.  Thanks to everyone who has supported me by walking with me or sponsoring me, and  for supporting Dementia UK which provides such amazing support for those affected by dementia.

Saturday 31st Jan
Still stormy!  Hard to stand up.  Ruby is not deterred though!!

Saturday 31st Jan
I was hoping to put more miles in after a weekend away, but Storm Chandra  changed my plans! The heavy rainfall led to the River Otter bursting its banks, so paths along the estuary were closed. At one point, the river and high tide combined to make  the lower end of our road impassable.

Wednesday 21st Jan
Haven't walked much over the last couple of days - only 2.2 miles.  The weather has been atrocious - wet and windy - I've run out of dry 'waterproofs'!"

19th January

Monday 19th Jan
I only managed a couple of short walks over the weekend, but today completed 5.9 miles with Steph and Annette (and Button, Flossy and of course Ruby).  Included  in our walk was a coffee stop  at Oak Barn!  Thank you ladies!

16th January

Saturday 17th Jan
Halfway through the month and I've done 40 miles.  Not much walking this week as I've been in London, but 15 days still to go!

12th January

Monday 12th Jan
After a short walk with both dogs (1.2 miles), Ruby and I set off along the SW Coast path towards Sandy Bay.  The Coast Path was very muddy and slippery, so we turned back at Littleham Cove,  cut across the golf course to the old railway track and headed back to Budleigh.  Ruby was much happier being off the lead and exploring the puddles.  We covered 6.3 miles, so total walk today of 7.5 miles.

9th January

Friday 9th Jan
Walked to the western end of Budleigh with Ruby.  In the aftermath of the storm,  debris has been deposited high up the beach, but the afternoon was beautiful - sunshine and a blue sky!

8th January

Friday 9th Jan
A longer morning walk before storm Goretti arrives - 4.5 miles.  That's it for the day!

6th Jan

Tuesday 6th Jan
Short walk this morning (1.2 miles) as I'm off to the Memory Cafe at Seachange today.  Beautiful morning though - Amber was happy to pose, though Ruby couldn't stay still long enough!

5th January

Monday 5th Jan
A short dog walk this morning, before joining a 'litter pick' walk around Budleigh with 'Budleigh Lions Club', 'Plastic  Free Budleigh' and 'Million Mile Clean'.  Thanks to everyone who joined in.  3.5 miles added

3rd January

Sunday 4th Jan
Two dog walks today, and a glorious walk along Exmouth beach with Sarah and Lyn.  7 miles in total

2nd January

Sunday 4th Jan
Beautiful walk from Budleigh to Otterton Mill with Ruby.  5.5 miles (though Ruby did a bit more!)

1st January

Friday 2nd Jan
To 'bookend' the day, I did a sunset walk to the western end of Budleigh beach.  Still no sun, so the photo is facing eastwards as the lights came on along the promenade.

1st January 2026

Thursday 1st Jan
Sunrise walk (OK not a lot of sun) along Budleigh beach with Ruby.
