Walk 50 Miles in January 2026

I'm walking 50 Miles in January for Dementia UK

This January, I'm walking 50 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

31.1.25. Challenge completed 53 miles

Saturday 31st Jan
Thank you to everyone for your support and sponsorship.  Last day of challenge and the sun came out for our final 1.5 miles today ☀️.

All sponsorship was paid direct to Dementia UK and those funds will go a long way to help lots of families around the UK in various ways.

As a family  who are experiencing and learning how to deal with Dementia and all the challenges it throws at you really do thank you from the bottom of our hearts ♥️

Monday, 26th January ...challenge completed🎉🥳

Monday 26th Jan
Today we walked another 3 miles which takes us over the 50 mile target for this challenge. (51.5 miles!)

A circular walk from Beer Head car park out along the public bridleway and coast path with a stop off in Beer for a drink and lunch before trekking up the big hill back to the car!

Thank you so much to everyone who has followed our progress and sponsored us.  We have so far raised an amazing amount y personal target was £50 and we are nearing £200 ♥️. The funds raised will help lots of  families dealing with dementia.  Amazing ♥️

Lyme Regis and Lister Gardens 3 miles

Saturday 24th Jan
Stormy walk another 3 miles ....only 1.5 miles left  ♥️

23-1-26. 44.5 miles in total

Friday 23rd Jan
4 miles completed today and they were a hard 4 miles along the road as footpaths were flooded.  The roads around this area are very steep and today we took them all on.  Only another 5.5 miles to go to reach our target by end January!  Thanks to all that have sponsored us, but if anyone can spare a bit of money for a good cause please follow the link.  Thank you ♥️

22.1.26 - Another soggy 3 miles (40.5 in total)

Thursday 22nd Jan
We decided to do a circular walk around Chard Reservoir today as the description said it was well made paths around the whole reservoir taking in the old railway route and the canal.

It did indeed have paths but they were underneath the water that was overflowing from the reservoir 🙈🤣.  Still a gorgeous walk and because I had done just under 3 miles by the end, I was dropped a little way down the lane on the way home which means we have added another 3 miles bringing the total to 40.5.

19.1.26 Total 33.5 miles so far!

Monday 19th Jan
Lovely day today so decided to do the Seaton to Colyford circular walk through Seaton Wetlands and marshes.  Our longest walk in a while but nice and flat so not too much effort, slightly disappointing that after coming off the track and walking to Colyford both the pub and the cafe were closed 🙈 Story of our life!! 🤣.  Everyone has been so kind sponsoring us, we will continue to try to do walks every day this week and add updates of our miles.  Thank you so much

Storms stopped play!

Monday 12th Jan
So the recent storm and the loss of electric and water, road closures and dangerous conditions  put a bit of a stop to the plans for walking.  Our little area of Cornwall was devastated by the storm, trees that have been standing tall and strong for years are now uprooted along with the ground surrounding the roots ...it is so sad to see and our landscape changed forever ☹️. Anyway, today was the start of a new week and I had to drop my car to the garage so walked from there to the town to meet a friend who then drove me to Penzance where we did another walk.  I used my Strava to log these miles and this ha increased my total to 19.5 miles.  I will hopefully now be able to continue walking a few miles each day ...weather permitting!!

Tuesday, 6th January

Tuesday 6th Jan
Didn't get time to walk yesterday as on a First Aid training course and dark by time I got home and today we were looking after grandchildren and had things to do so only fitted in a short walk of 1.5 miles  but a very nice walk in Hayle along King George Memorial walk. 😀

Helston Boating Lake to Penrose Stables and back - 3 miles!

Sunday 4th Jan
Joined by friends today for a walk from the Boating Lake to Penrose Stables and back.  Forgot to set tracker on way there so photo only shows the return journey 🙈

Another 4 miles added today!

Saturday 3rd Jan
Lovely circular walk from Crowan Church, through Crenver Woods, into Clowance Estate (and a pit stop for a drink) then back through the fields to Crowan Church.  Just over 4 miles on a beautifully crisp cold day.  It's good to be out and about! 😀🌤️

5 miles completed 👍

Friday 2nd Jan
Never got out and about to walk until after 3pm so decided on a flattish walk from Wherrytown car park to Mousehole and back.  Ended up walking back as it got dark but with the most beautiful full moon guiding us on our way ♥️. 5 miles done today -only another 45 miles before the end of the month.  Thank you for sponsoring us for this charity.  Please share my post to raise awareness for Dementia UK.

New Year - new challenge!

Friday 2nd Jan
Thank you to everyone who has sponsored us already - so grateful ♥️

The New Year saw us going to watch a charity tractor run in which my son and Pete's daughter were taking part, then home to cook a roast for our parents who stayed for supper too, so we didn't get to walk yesterday so today will hopefully be a longer walk to keep us on track for our 50 mile target in January.  Happy New Year to everyone and if anybody fancies a walk any day let me know 😘

New Years Day - no time for walking

Thursday 1st Jan
Thank you to those who have so kindly  sponsored us already, it is very much appreciated.

We haven't managed to find a time slot in daylight to walk today so the walking will begin properly tomorrow!!
Today has been watching a charity tractor run that my son was taking part in in his vintage tractor and then having parents and family around for the day.

Lovely start to the New Year and looking forward to getting out in the fresh air tomorrow to do an extra long walk to make up for the missed walk today 😀♥️

Getting ready for the challenge!

Wednesday 31st Dec
Been out to Porthleven today to walk along to Loe Bar.  Beautiful day (although bitterly cold).  Walked about 1.5 miles along the footpath and the walk was made even more special as we clearly saw and heard a Chough at the bottom of the cliffs near the end of the walk.  Ready for 50 miles of adventures in January 2026!!
