I'm taking on the October Dog Walking Challenge

I’m walking 75 miles with my dog this October and raising funds for families affected by dementia. I would be grateful for your support.

An £8 donation could cover the telephone costs of two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.

Thank you!

Smiles for Miles and Miles!

Monday 6th Oct
We pressed “Paws” for a few days ! Patchi and I went back out today after taking a couple of days off due to a named storm (Storm Amy) that brought with it high winds. I didn’t really feel like getting injured by falling acorns, or worse, falling branches so we hunkered down and waited for the storm to pass. He was frustrated- staring at me and following us around the house to remind us we had a job to do- we needed to walk! So to say he was thrilled to be back at it today is a vast understatement! He had THE BIGGEST SMILE on his face the whole time! Thanks for continuing to follow our journey! Love and Licks, Patchi (and Gini)

Making Friends and memories along the way

Wednesday 1st Oct
We’ve just completed our first day of the challenge to raise awareness and help support Dementia UK! Patchi is so much like his human brother- he makes friends wherever he goes and brings smiles along the way! Today, we saw Nicky- our local Chatterbus driver who always has loving strokes and a treat for the doodle. He waited for her to open the door and climbed aboard- I needed to remind him we were WALKING in this challenge, not going for a ride! lol! I’ll update our stats along the way. I’ve found that whilst I typically try to walk more briskly to keep our heart rates up, the importance of this walk is to raise awareness of a disease that takes memories from us. And as much as our senses help in creating those memories, I’m placing more value on the sights, sounds, and smells of these daily treks with my 4 legged bestie to register them into both our memory banks- allowing Patchi to “paws” and sniff anything along the way too. I often wonder if my grandmother still would have memories playing in her mind when she smells my grandfather’s cologne that my dad now wears when he visits her, or if she has visions of them dancing to Nat King Cole when she hears a familiar tune. Thanks for reading- well keep trekking in hopes that our effort will help someone, somewhere! Love and licks, Patchi (and Gini)
