2026 November Swim Challenge

I'm taking part in the November Swim Challenge

I’m taking part in the November Swim Challenge for Dementia UK and raising funds for families affected by dementia. I would be grateful for your support.

£33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.

Thank you!

Evening swim 670m

Wednesday 4th Nov
Looks inviting until you get in!! But I managed 10 more lengths :-)

1st swim = 670m

Sunday 1st Nov
I did my first November swim this morning - 10 lengths of the 67m pool at Hilsea lido. The water was cold, but the weather was mild and not too windy. I rewarded myself afterwards with a hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows!
This felt manageable, but I'm sure the weather won't always be on my side!

I've signed up for 5km

Monday 26th Oct
On a brighter note, I'm doing something positive, and I've signed up for this 5km swim! I love swimming, and I don't expect the distance to be too much of a challenge. The tricky bit will be the cold water, as I'm aiming to do most of the distance in the unheated Hilsea Lido in November!!
But there would be no reason to sponsor me if it was easy, right?!
I'm aiming for 8 occasions of 10 lengths (it's a 67m pool), but we'll see if I can stay in the cold water for long enough to do 10 lengths before I freeze.... Wish me luck!

Why the cause is important to me

Monday 26th Oct
As most of you know, my Dad passed away nearly 2 years ago, and the years before that were affected by dementia.
Dad had a rare type - frontotemporal - which affected his personality before his memory. So I've seen first hand how this disease can tear apart a family. It is very upsetting for the friends and family of those going through it, but I can only imagine it is equally stressful and upsetting for the individual who is suffering with dementia.
Any support we can offer to sufferers and their families is valuable in our aging society. Any donation, however small, would be gratefully received ❤️
