Winter Reading Challenge

I'm doing Winter Reading Challenge for Dementia UK

This winter, I'm reading and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

The fires of December

Saturday 26th Sep
Today im listening to the audiobook The fires of December, a kickstarter book from Brandon sanderson. Not everyone gets to read it, its only because of early back up that I get to. I decided to listen rather than read so I can smash it out quick, while driving and cleaning so I can get back to my other book. Brandon's books are my favourite so of course I'm going to stop everything for this.

A trade in blood

Tuesday 22nd Sep
Today I'm reading a trade in blood by Robert Jackson Bennett, this is his 3rd book in the series. It's a fantasy murder mystery and you just fall in love with the characters, the world building is phenomenal and I hope its not his last. It's supposed to be a trilogy but he has said that he would want to write more in interviews. One of the characters has a perfect memory, but the long term effects is that you slowly lose your mind. Very apt for this fundraiser, don't you think?

Welcome

Monday 21st Sep
Being ill, not able bodied and general laziness makes me not want to participate in 25k run for charity. But here is a fundraiser I can back. My TBR pile is bigger than I would like to admit, and my partner has said I'm not allowed to buy anymore until I smash some of these. So let's start with the books I've borrowed (some may not be given back, ops) and see how many I can do until he says I can buy more. Also need to buy a new bookcase but thats a later problem.

Im quite glad this is for dementia. I think everyone will experience this at some point in their lives. I worked 18 years in care before I was sick. One of the persons I cared for was my grandmother. She was so scared of loosing her marbles, I promised her I'd let her know when that happened. I found her down her street in her nightgown cold and scared, and when I was leading her back home I told her then that her marbles were gone. She was desperate in the end to die, begging me to kill her in some way. Because for her it was better to be gone then to loose her most valuable part of herself. She was 94 when she passed and I'm glad it wasn't much more suffering after her being lost. But if I can help other families, friends, neighbours, colleagues and strangers then let's do it.

Thanks for visiting. Now can I have your money!
