I'm taking part in the November Swim Challenge

I’m taking part in the November Swim Challenge for Dementia UK and raising funds for families affected by dementia. I would be grateful for your support.

£33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.

Thank you!

One Challenge Complete, a Longer Term One to Face!

Monday 17th Nov
My decision to attempt this challenge was driven by two factors, (both fundamentally selfish!) :-

There's a family history of dementia on my mum's side.  A great aunt, an aunt and now my mum herself have been affected, or are still being affected, by dementia.  We all  know that this condition is referred to as "The Long Goodbye".  It's a condition without mercy that doesn't differentiate.  Male/female, rich/poor, even young(ish)/less young.

There are so many worthy causes to support.  More than one will likely touch each of us personally at some stage.  At this point in time, this one speaks to me most strongly.

The second reason relates to seeking improvements in my physical and mental health after years of inactivity!

Swimming was something I did twice a day, seven days a week probably 360 days a year for much of my teenage life.  (Not always through choice though it would have to be said! ;-))  The lack of choice probably accounted in some way for the prolonged "absence" from it in later years!  HOWEVER, it's the physical activity that comes most easily and naturally to me so now seemed like the right time to give myself a figurative "boot up the rear end"

There have been days I've not "felt it", but the support, faith and financial backing of others has kept me going.  Thank you then to all my supporters for "being the reason".

With the 15K part of the challenge complete my next challenge will be to keep going.  Which will prove to have been the bigger challenge I wonder?  (Thoughts welcome!!)

Good luck to anyone still working on the distance challenge and well done to everyone who signed up to attempt it.
