Hobbling 30 miles in September!
Dementia has had, and continues to have, a devastating effect on our family. Witnessing firsthand the impact of this cruel disease as it takes away independence, the ability to communicate, recognition of those the sufferer loves, understanding of the world they're trapped in, control of their emotions, access to the enormous store of information that makes them who they are... it's heartbreaking and so very, very hard.
Being honest, the thought of developing dementia ourselves is terrifying. We read article after article, hoping that the reason why this horrendous disease, that has taken such a hold on the modern world, has been identified and we can start fighting back.
So that's why we're walking 30 miles in September, to raise money to support Dementia UK in the vital work they do to help sufferers and their families.
Ordinarily, 1 mile each day would be something we could easily do - it would just be a case of getting ourselves organised for a change! However, I (Diane) had a total knee replacement on 7th August, so it's going to be a little bit more of a challenge! Fortunately, Steve's going to be doing it with me so together we have '3 Good Legs'! Keep everything crossed for us - we'll try and share our progress if we can master the technology! xxx
