I'm taking on the MKS Movement Challenge for Dementia UK

This August, I'm taking on the MKS Movement Challenge and aiming to run for at least 5km every day while raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

My Updates

Hit my target!

Friday 28th Aug
I have reached the 100 mile mark several days early, which is very pleasing. Yesterday I was out early, visiting a bird reserve near Leeds, Eaton l RSPB St Aidan’s, which involved a 9km walk to get round its lakes, woods and ings. That helped add on distance so this morning’s 5.4k run along the Meanwood Park trail in Leeds was enough to top the 100 mile target. Tomorrow I’ll be in York, running around the racecourse first thing.

Final week #1

Tuesday 25th Aug
For the last week of my Movement Challenge I'm travelling through Derbyshire, Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.  I'll post photos from the different routes I take during this final week. It was nice to have a change of scenery for this morning's run, although South Normanton is more built up than the Cotswolds. I also ended up taking a few wrong turns as the route was new to me, but still managed a circular 3 mile route back to the hotel.

Two thirds through

Thursday 20th Aug
It's Day 20 and so far I'm on target for 100 miles and have managed to run each morning, apart from two days when I picked up a summer cold. The response to my fundraising asks has been very positive and motivating, and helps to keep me moving each day and adding on the miles. The next 11 days will include some variety as I'll be travelling in Derbyshire, Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, so will post photos from those runs. This was Preston Park this morning, in the sunshine after last night's welcome rain.

Runtourism

Monday 10th Aug
An upside of running every day for the MKS Movement Month is the motivation to go out early wherever I am. This week, I was in London for a couple of days, so was able to enjoy this view of Tower Bridge while running beside the Tower of London. I'm going to be away from home a few other times this month so will share some photos along the way.

Three days in

Monday 3rd Aug
I tend to run three times a week, but stepping that up to going out every day will be a physical and logistical challenge. Three days in and I'm on target, but the month did start with a weekend. I'm hoping that the heat won't continue throughout August but I'm grateful that the West Country hasn't been as hot as the East of England so far. So far, so good...

Well done, Dan. As it happens, I donate to Dementia Uk already, the cnnection being that my dad developed dementia before he died. I'm sure that the lower temperatures will be a welcome relief to you!
