I'm running 100K for Dementia UK

I've been inspired to run further and more regularly and to raise funds for Dementia UK  by my parents who were such committed fundraisers for Imperial Cancer Research Fund in the 1980s and 90s. They gave up so much time organising Jumble sales and Christmas card sales and deliveries as well as turning social occasions into fundraisers; dinner parties, Burns' Night Suppers, Election Night parties and Wacky Races in a pool to name but a few.

Dad was mainly the driver and logistics support behind mum's organisational and creative zeal but after watching the first London Marathon in 1981 Dad ran the next 13 raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for ICRF.

As a family we have been supported through mum's journey with dementia by very many wonderful carers and nurses.  In addition I am now fortunate that her current home is just up the road and close to countless trails and footpaths allowing me to combine a visit with a run in awesome scenery which is so key to my own wellbeing.

Thanks for reading and for  donating  if you can .  If you can please share this page widely, you'll help me raise awareness about supporting family and friends who live with dementia and in so doing you'll bring a smile to mum's face  and honour dad's memory.

Brutal climb but loved it

Friday 28th Mar
Ok so maybe I have subconsciously left it 5 days to share to allow me to forget the pain and start to believe I'd want to put muyself through it again .🤔I got round in 1h52 mins but more importantly got a real kick from all the support along the route in additi0n to all your generous donations and words of encouragement. Best of all was see mum had been able to get outside her care home to support all the runners.

100km in Feb complete

Sunday 16th Mar
The fact that this photo was taken a few minutes before  midnight on the last day of the month  and that I'm sharing over 2 weeks later speaks volumes.  Anyhow will keep the lifelong job of improving timekeeping to discussions with my long suffering wife and my therapist.  It's just a number but it did feel good to reach this milestone for the first time in 18+ months. So grateful for all the messages of support and donations. They really are going to spurr me on during the 2nd half of the Sheffield half  x

Over half way ....Oh no I'm not

Monday 17th Feb
Over half way in days but not in kilometres !!  I moaned and grimaced my way through last week with man flu and toothache so am behind schedule at 32km.  Becky and I have had a very relaxing and enjoyable mini-break with my aunt Jan in Aldeburgh on the Suffolk Coast. I've managed one 7km run along to Thorpeness. Maybe one more before we return to Sheffield on Tuesday. Thank you for all your support xx
