Walk 50 Miles in January 2026

I'm walking 50 Miles in January for Dementia UK

This January, I'm walking 50 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

Fundraising for Dementia UK

Thursday 18th Dec
Two years ago Barry was diagnosed with Alzheimer's just months after Waltraud's mum died. Barry is still very active and so we are using this opportunity to raise funds for Dementia UK. Alzheimer's affects every aspect of our lives and we appreciate the tremendous support we are getting from our friends, the community land various organisations. We would like to use our walks to raise awareness and hopefully plenty of money. Thank you so much for your support in advance!

Paul R G Chaplin

Hi Barry. In 2003, Paul's symptoms of P.C.A became apparent. Posterior Cortical Atrophy (shriveling the rear of the brain) is a progressive dementia affecting his ability to make sense of the world, visual-spatial, object recognition and all forms of memory. Since 2011 Paul has been cherished and well looked after by Kate Harmer/Hansford. Once we had got the assessments, diagnostics, legal processes, documented and "in place", we then lived a life based on what we could do, not struggle with what Paul couldn't do, or what interfering staff thought Paul could/couldn't/should do. Good luck with the next period of your life! We all worked together in the 1970s with byv. I am trying to attach a photo. of us all in one of Paul's interminable staff meetings. Kate xx
