I'm taking on the October Dog Walking Challenge

I’m walking 75 miles with Stanley my dog this October and raising funds for families affected by dementia. As many of you know I am a Helper for Good Life Sorted and recently one of my customers Trevor sadly passed away suffering from Vascular Dementia. I am completing this walk in his honour and to help other families with loved ones who have dementia. I would be grateful for your support.

An £8 donation could cover the telephone costs of two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support. However much or little you can contribute will be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Day 13 - blowing away the cobwebs !

Monday 13th Oct
Some sea air and exercise was just what was needed this morning after feeling so poorly yesterday. As you can see it was quite breezy but also beautiful sunshine which made for a lovely walk, whilst Stanley ran about and had a dip in the sea, he was definitely happy to be back out and about !

Day 12 - A day gone wrong !

Sunday 12th Oct
This has been my view for most of today because sadly I have been poorly. Luckily Stanley is a very good boy and doesn't mind just taking care of me (he gets to come up on the big soft bed!). My boys stepped up for me today and clocked up a couple of miles just to keep the momentum going, plus they cooked their own tea, so I could rest. Hopefully it will be back to business as usual tomorrow !

Day 11 - walking with teens !

Saturday 11th Oct
It's always a fun occasion walking with either of my teens. Now they are both camera shy and find anything that I might want to post 'cringe,' yep that's me ! So it's a head down wave today....... least I'm smiling and we keep walking !

Day 9 Playmates !

Thursday 9th Oct
After a nice long walk this morning, Stanley had his buddy Ernie wire haired dachshund who is 8 months old. They had lots of zoomies in the garden and lots of barking, protecting us whilst we drank our cups of tea! This is them waiting patiently for a treat !

Day 8 grey and misty walk !

Wednesday 8th Oct
Today we took a long walk right along the seafront and sea wall, then back round and through one of our local parks. Stanley is a happy doggy wherever we go as long as he gets to run about and do lot's of sniffing !

Day 6

Monday 6th Oct
A cloudy start to the walk soon gave way to brilliant sunshine and just a light breeze. Living so close to the beach (just a 10 min walk) is why we moved here. There is something so peaceful and calming about being near the sea and hearing the crashing of the waves on the shore. On a personal note, these walks are really helping me. My own dear father passed away 2 weeks ago and so whilst this walk is dedicated to my lovely late customer Trevor, the walks are giving me much needed head space to think and reflect about my Dad. He was an unwavering support to me my whole life, a steady hand on the rocky path of life. I see and feel him everywhere on our walks - yes I'm collecting all the white feathers he sends me ! I plan to put them all inside a Christmas bauble on the tree this year xxx

Day 4 it's sunny again !

Saturday 4th Oct
I managed to persuade my 15 year old to come with me and Stanley this morning. Luckily the weather had improved today and we had gorgeous sunshine for our beach walk. Still very windy though, as you can see by my wild hair lol ! We now have 18 miles under our belts woohoo !

Day 3... Wind & Rain !

Friday 3rd Oct
Today we set off for a walk on the beach and nearly got swept away by the lashing wind and rain..... what a difference a day makes ! We ploughed on getting our steps in with 'Sunrise at Zaks' Cafe as our goal. Imagine our disappointment when we got there and the shutters were all closed ! We heard some staff inside the cabin so we cheekily knocked on the door and asked if they were open. Technically no came the reply but we can do you something if you'd like ? Yes please we both begged, one cup of tea and one toastie later we had happy Angie and happy George who I had persuaded to accompany on the challenge today. We then went to Lidl to buy some treats for weekend so all ended well.

A catch up with Yvonne

Thursday 2nd Oct
Today I caught up with Yvonne, Trevor's wife over a cuppa and she joined me and Stanley on our Day 2 walk of the challenge with her Cockerpoo Smokey. It was a beautiful sunny morning and we chatted lot's about Trevor and how being diagnosed with Dementia affected his and her life. They had been together 45 years and she misses him lot's. She has been watching my fundraising progress and thanks everyone who has donated to this worthy cause already. She hopes to join me on another walk next week when we are planning a trip to the beach. Catching up with Yvonne helps me to understand the impact of caring for a loved one with dementia can have. It is so important to have support you can rely on so you don't feel so alone whilst you care for them.

Stanley is ready !

Tuesday 30th Sep
We have done two practice walks today and we are ready to begin. Lets goooo !!

Practice beach walk - to check everything is linked up and working properly ready for tomorrow !

Trevor and Yvonne

Monday 29th Sep
Trevor was one of my Good Life Sorted Customers, pictured here with his lovely wife Yvonne. Sadly Trevor passed away in August with Dementia. I am doing this walk in his memory.

Practising and walking !

Thursday 11th Sep
This week Stanley and I have been getting in lots of practise ahead of the Oct challenge starting. His favourite place to walk is the beach as he loves a cheeky dip in the sea, we'll see if he still likes it as much once the weather gets colder in October ! I'm downloading the Strava app today so we can track our progress and will be getting one of my teens to show me how to link it to my fundraiser ! Thank you to all who have sponsored us so far xxx
