Throughout the month of November, our team set ourselves the challenge of swimming 10km in support of Dementia UK. Although this started as a small idea (at 3am on a Sunday morning) it very quickly turned into a bigger challenge than we had expected.
We didn’t have Strava or any formal tracking app, but we kept careful note of every swim we completed:
- 4th November: 1 km in 30 minutes (our first warm-up swim together as a team)
- 7th November: 1.5 km in 45 minutes
- 21st November: 1.5 km in 45 minutes
- 25th November: 3 km in 1.5 hours
- 28th November: our final 3 km in 1.5 hours
Collectively, these sessions brought us to our full 10 km goal.
What surprised us most was that the hardest part wasn’t the swimming itself but the parts surrounding it. Between visits home from uni, sickness and juggling busy and very different schedules, it was difficult to find moments where we could all be in the pool together. Just getting to the pool as a team took a lot of patience and motivation.
We are very glad to have completed the swim today as a team for a cause that means a lot to us, and we are very grateful for anyone who chooses to support Dementia UK through our fundraising page. Every donation helps to make a real difference to families affected by dementia.

This November, we're swimming and raising funds for families affected by dementia. We are taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.
£33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.
