FAQs
Fundraising and challenge FAQs
When will I get my Dementia UK tote bag?
Please allow two weeks from when you registered for your tote bag to arrive. Do let us know if it hasn’t arrived after this time at products@dementiauk.org
When does the challenge start?
Although the challenge officially starts in November, feel free to start at any time that suits you. Whenever and however you knit, it’s all about challenging yourself, having fun and doing something amazing to support families facing dementia.
What do I make?
Anything you want! Knit, crochet or sew something you love, tackle a new pattern, or get a head start on some festive gifts for your friends and family. You’ll find plenty of inspiration in our Facebook Group too.
Can I fundraise offline?
Of course! You’ll receive a sponsorship form in your pack, along with your tote bag, if you requested one. In the meantime, you can download a copy to print here.
How do I pay in donations?
All the money raised on your personal fundraising page will come straight to us. If you have any cash donations, you can pay in via the following methods:
Bank the cash into your own account and then pay it to your fundraising page.
Cheque: please make cheques payable to Dementia UK and send them to Dementia UK, 7th Floor, One Aldgate, London EC3N 1RE.
Make a payment by phone on 0300 365 5500.
Please include your unique supporter reference number when paying in by cheque or phone so we know where the donation has come from and can thank you personally for your amazing fundraising. If you can’t find your reference number, please email us at products@dementiauk.org
Does my online donation go to Dementia UK?
Yes. Donations made through Funraisin – our secure online fundraising platform – are sent to Dementia UK.
Like most online donations, donations are subject to a standard payment processing fee charged by our payment provider, Stripe. This fee is typically 1.4% of the donation + 25p per UK card transaction.
Dementia UK does not pay any platform fees for donations made through Funraisin. The platform is funded through the optional contributions that some donors choose to make.
Why am I being asked to add an optional contribution when donating?
When you donate through Funraisin, you will see the option to add a voluntary contribution alongside your donation.
This optional contribution helps cover the running costs of Funraisin, including payment technology, fraud protection, customer support, ongoing platform improvements and compliance. If you choose to contribute, you will help cover these costs so Funraisin can continue to provide a free fundraising platform for Dementia UK and other charities.
Do I have to pay the optional contribution?
No. The contribution is completely voluntary.
If you'd rather not add it, simply select ‘I don't wish to help cover costs’ during the donation process. Your donation will still be processed and sent to Dementia UK, and choosing not to contribute will not affect your donation or your fundraising experience.
Why are there multiple Tip Jar amounts?
The Tip Jar, also called the User Contribution, offers different amounts based on the size of your donation. This keeps the suggested contribution proportionate, with a lower percentage offered for larger donations. The contribution helps cover Funraisin’s platform costs, but it is completely optional - you can select an amount or choose not to contribute.
