I'm walking 30 Miles in September for Dementia UK
Hi,
My parents were diagnosed with dementia last year. Yes, it broke my heart as I had so much to say to them which will remain unsaid and instead they will suffer from this disease without realising what is wrong with them. They are being helped 24/7 and I wish I could visit them more often.
What is unsaid will remain just that. I will never have closure with my parents. With help, they are coping, but dementia is equivalent to watching a person change dramatically through the year. It not only affects them, but their friends and relatives too, and upsettingly, it is often worse for those dearest to the sufferers. But this isn't about me; it's for all dementia sufferers - the confusion felt, the feeling of loss, the feeling of misunderstanding why what can and cannot be done, the feeling of being 'attacked' by close friends and loved ones. The feeling of intrusion when family tries to insist on help within the home.
