The pain and sadness that comes with loving someone with dementia is a whole other beast entirely and the loss of my grandad in January still leaves a massive hole in our lives, for someone so loud and loving and down right incredible. My grandad only had a short experience with the vascular dementia (whether that can be seen as a good thing or not is somewhat debatable, depending on how you look at it) but as a family we did our best to not let the condition take over who he was as a person and I'd like to believe, even in the end when he was no longer very responsive, that he knew just how loved he was and that nothing changed that.
