I'm swimming for Dementia UK

In Loving Memory of Patricia Ridley

I'm raising money in memory of my wonderful mum, Patricia Ridley, who sadly passed away just shy of two years ago after living with dementia for 16 years. I'm taking on a 30-Day Swimming Challenge and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support as I plan on swimming 15 km in 30 days.

Dementia is a devastating disease. It slowly steals memories, independence, confidence and, heartbreakingly, the little moments that make someone who they are. While it affects the person living with it, it also has a profound impact on the family and friends who love them.

Watching Mum's journey with dementia was incredibly difficult, but throughout it all she remained deeply loved. Her strength, courage and the memories we shared before dementia took hold will stay with me forever.

Every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference. If you're unable to donate, simply sharing this page would mean the world to me.
Thank you for taking the time to read Mum's story and for helping me keep Pat Ridley's memory alive while supporting a cause that touches so many families.

I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

Done it!

Wednesday 23rd Sep
On day  23 of my 30 day challenge, I completed 15km!!!! In fact I have done 612 lengths equating to 15.3km. As I have time im going for 10 miles which means another approx 29 lengths 🥳🥳🥳🥳

Success after a set back!

Friday 18th Sep
So I slept in on Tuesday and then had no water on wednesday (ironic that the pool is closed because of no water 🤣).  Although I was ahead of the game, I was feeling a little deflated.  Today I came to the pool and swam 64 lengths!!! Last time I swam 1 mile, I was 12 years old and taking my survival badge at school 🙈. I have now completed exactly 500 lengths so have well over a week to get the last 100 done and dusted. Thank you to everyone for your support and encouragement ❤️❤️❤️

Half way!

Friday 11th Sep
So im now 11 days into my challenge and im smashing it 😍 my halfway time is Tuesday 15th and im already at 350 lengths (well over halfway). My brother and Dawn are doing equally as well. All three of us have hit the halfway mark x

50 lengths done

Tuesday 1st Sep
Rocking my new pink swim hat, I went to the pods today to start my challenge. Rather than fret, my mantra was 'just keep swimming ' and that exactly what i did. Needed 30 lengths but ended up doing 50 😍

Stuff got real!

Monday 10th Aug
So im so utterly excited that I have smashed my fundraising goal and I am standing at £311. Im so humbled by the sipport and now!!!! Im gonna look the business as my swim cap has be processed ❤️ I will take a photo of me wearing it! 🤣🤣🤣

The challenge!

Wednesday 5th Aug
The countdown has started. 26 days until I take on 15km in 30 days swim. Breaking that down means I will be swimming 30 lengths, 5 days a week to complete the 600 lengths I have committed to. Im hoping to add an extra 40 lengths to my challenge (cos im metric) to make it a round 10 miles 💪🤞
