I'm walking 62 Miles in October
My mother is 93 on Saturday! Hurrah you would think, but she has Alzheimer’s and Vascular Dementia, is bed bound and in a nursing home in the locked facility for dementia patients. She doesn’t read, watch or listen to anything. She just lies there. I am pretty sure most of the time she does not know who I am. I know she doesn’t know me when all she can think of saying is “ you’re a big lad!” 😂 I told her I was retiring and she smiled. I said I was 63 and ready for it. She replied that she is 43. She is peaceful and pain free most of the time, but not always. She has drugs to keep her calm. Dementia is an appalling disease and anyone of us can get it or even has it already. Early onset Dementia creeps up on you slowly and silently until it is too late. So, I am starting my retirement walking 62 miles in October for Dementia UK . Not much you might think, but as my mother says” you’re a big lad!” . A link to donate is below. Anything will help, and maybe one day find a cure for this dreadful disease. Thank you .
