Walk 50 Miles in January 2026

I'm walking 50 Miles in January for Dementia UK

This January, I'm walking 50 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

Did it!

Saturday 31st Jan
Well, there were times I thought I’d struggle but… I had just two miles left and today was such a lovely, sunny day it made it almost easy! Many many thanks to everyone who has supported me on this little adventure. As I’ve said somewhere else, fifty miles in a month might not seem a lot, but the month is January and my condition makes getting out of bed and walking downstairs difficult at times. So I’ve earned my glass of bubbly today to celebrate!

Day 13

Tuesday 13th Jan
2.9 miles thanks largely to an evening stroll to The Mill to celebrate Charlie’s 18th birthday. Back on track? Almost.

Day 12

Monday 12th Jan
That’s more like it! 2.8 miles thanks largely to a meeting of the fundraising committee for the Stump music appeal… walked to, of course. (Almost) back on track.

Day 9-11

Sunday 11th Jan
Well, it went from bad to worse! Even less (0.59 miles) on Friday, thanks to  some bl**dy awful weather. Let’s hope for better tomorrow.
Sat 10th  January… and it was! 1.3 miles thanks to a cold, post-supper stroll in the frost and then a whopping (!!)  1.5 miles on Sunday thanks to a variety of foot-slogging activities.

Day 8

Thursday 8th Jan
Oh dear! Another sub-mile day (though only just - 0.95 is so, so close!) - I’d better get my skates on tomorrah!

Day 7

Wednesday 7th Jan
Poor effort today! Not even half a mile: 0.43 to be precise. Still, every little helps I suppose. Here’s hoping tomorrow yields something better.

Day 6

Wednesday 7th Jan
Well, a difficult day to get those yards done, with snow and ice and a bitter wind. A grand total of 0.73 miles is all o could muster. Thanks to the better days I’m still (wait for it!)… on track.

Day 5

Monday 5th Jan
Two miles: a lovely, late afternoon stroll through the Country Park in the snow.

Day 4

Sunday 4th Jan
Dipped below the magic mile mark today (but only by 0.03) so… still on track!

Day 3

Saturday 3rd Jan
“Only” one mile today but I’m still on track…

Day two…

Friday 2nd Jan
Not as far as yesterday -  1.7 miles - but still on track!

Day one…

Thursday 1st Jan
Not a bad start. 3.2 miles along the cliffs to Sewerby and back.
