Walk 31 Miles in May 2026

Join the Facebook group for Walk 31 miles in May challenge.

I'm walking 31 Miles in May for Dementia UK

This May, I'm walking 31 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

Day 31

Sunday 31st May
I want to say a massive thank you to those who have sponsored me on undertaking 31 miles in May for Dementia UK. I managed to complete 36.56 miles following 2 walks today. I had hoped to walk more miles but the heatwave this week scuppered those plans but I am happy to have walked 5 miles more than target.
Your sponsorship means so much and will give the charity precious funds to support families facing this awful disease. Thanks to you all, my target has been smashes and £325 has been raised

Good progress

Sunday 10th May
So here we are on day 10 and I've already managed 15 miles. I am attempting to walk at least 6 miles at weekends as I am finding it hard to get the purposeful mile in daily when at work, but I will endeavour to try. The weather has been favourable which has helped.  Dementia is affecting more families these days so thank you for your support. It means so much.

Playing Catch up and getting ahead

Sunday 3rd May
Good weather on Saturday  encouraged me out to undertake the mile i missed on Friday, do Saturday's mile and bank a mile in case for bad weather. A tough visit to my mother-in-law was made on Sunday so I persuaded the other half to join me for a walk, bribing him with a promise of a frappe at the local coffee place - a mile there and back - day 3 and 5 miles done. I am aiming to exceed the total but life happens sometimes.

Oops

Saturday 2nd May
So my headstart didn't quite pan out as my lunchtime walk plans were messed up with work meetings. I am also a mile down already but hey that's life. So today we will be visiting my mother-in-law in her care home. She's immobile now  so I'm  going to double down and get two miles in after our visit to get back in track. Have a nice day all

Starting Early

Friday 10th Apr
This might be 31 miles in May but I've decided to get a headstart and have walked to work a couple of times this week; something i don't normally do. So this equates to 4 miles on Wendneday and 2.5 miles today (I got the bus for part of the journey as my foot was hurting). Now to toughen up and get some more miles in.
Why am I doing this?
My father had vascular dementia and whilst his unexpected  passing away meant I didn't need to get to contact Dementia UK, to know that they existed was enough.
My Mother-in-Law has Alzheimer's and it has been heart breaking watching her decline. A once bubbly, chatty individual who loved being amongst people  now unable to hold a conversation.  Knowing that there is support available is great and I am pleased to be able to support the work they do.
Thank you for your sponsorship.
