Winter Reading Challenge

I'm doing Winter Reading Challenge for Dementia UK

This winter, I'm reading and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

Winter reading challenge

Friday 23rd Oct
I have decided to take on the Dementia Winter Reading Challenge for reasons that are deeply personal to me.

Through my prevoius work, I have had the privilege of working with people living with dementia. These experiences have given me a greater understanding of the challenges that dementia can bring, not only for the person living with the condition but also for their families, friends and the people who care for them.

Working with people with dementia has shown me the importance of patience, compassion, understanding and kindness. It has reminded me that behind every diagnosis is a person with a lifetime of memories, experiences, relationships and stories. Although dementia can change many things, the person remains deserving of dignity, respect, love and meaningful connections.

My reasons for taking on this challenge are also personal. I have seen a close friend experience the heartache of losing a loved one to dementia. Watching someone you care about go through that journey brings home just how much this condition can affect everyone around the person diagnosed. Dementia does not just impact one individual; it touches entire families and friendship groups, often in ways that are difficult to put into words.

It is heartbreaking to see the changes that dementia can bring and the emotional journey that loved ones face. It has made me think even more deeply about the importance of raising awareness, offering support and helping people understand what living with dementia can really mean.
As most of yoy know I absolutely enjoy reading so why not put that to good use. Thank you for taking the time to read this and hopefully you will donate to a very good cause.
