I'm walking 50 Miles in January for Dementia UK
This January, I'm walking 50 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.
Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.
Thank you!

Final push....
Friday 30th Jan
Day 24 update 💛
Saturday 24th Jan I’m heading into the final week now and somehow I’ve reached triple figures, 106 miles in the walk 50 miles in January for the Dementia uk challenge. No one is more surprised then I am 😅🚶♀️I’ve also raised £361 in sponsorship to date, and I honestly can’t thank you enough 💕 Every single donation, message, and bit of encouragement has kept me moving 💫
Thank you, thank you, thank you for being part of this journey with me 💕 Your support means more than you know 💜
Because you’ve all carried me this far… I’m going to push on and attempt to triple the original 50 miles. That means aiming for another 44 miles before the month ends - seven days to go, and I’m giving it everything I’ve got 💛 Share
Day 16 update
Friday 16th Jan I HIT 50 MILES! 💜🔥Day 16 and I’ve now reached 76 miles, but the big moment came on Saturday 10th, when I officially smashed the original 50 mile challenge goal 🎉💜 (miles dedicated to the challenge, not my usual day‑to‑day steps).
This second week has definitely started to take its toll🚶♀️mostly from trying to squeeze walks in around 12 hour shifts and the general chaos of life. But hey ho… it is a walking challenge. The clue is very much in the title 😅💜
Day 8 update
Thursday 8th Jan My walk 50 miles in January for the Dementia UK challenge is still rolling. It's Day 8 and I’ve hit 40 miles 🔥 (miles dedicated to the challenge, not my usual day-to-day steps) 💜A lot of determination has been needed this week, with far too many, pitch black 5am pre‑work walks 😴🔦
💜 And in the middle of all that, Sunday brought the moment we’d been waiting for: Mum finally came home from hospital. Back where she belongs, surrounded by love, familiarity, and the comfort of her own home. We are also blessed to welcome a wonderful new carer into our little unit, officially making us a team of four. It feels like the next chapter has begun 💛✨
💥 Just to make things interesting, I’ve now been set a bonus challenge. My lovely (and slightly irritating) friend Gemma has generously offered to double her original donation if I manage to double my miles and hit 100!
So yes… challenge accepted.
Game on, Gemma 😏🔥
💜 I’m walking for families like ours. Families navigating dementia with love, humour, and the kind of strength you don’t realise you have until life demands it. Families juggling hospital visits, care plans, emotional whiplash 💫 and those tiny moments of joy that keep you going ✨.
Every mile is for the sons, daughters, partners, and carers doing their absolute best on days that feel impossibly heavy 💛 It’s for the people who sit by bedsides, who advocate, who comfort, who hold hands, who keep showing up even when their hearts are tired 🤝💗.
And it’s for my Mun for everything she’s taught me about resilience, courage, and finding light even when everything feels uncertain 🌟💜. Share
Day 2 update 💜
Friday 2nd JanDay 2 Update… 💙
I imagined I’d be doing weekly updates… but here we are on Day 2, and I’m clearly enjoying myself far too much with this sponsored‑walking malarkey and have gotten rather excited.
As of today, I’ve walked 14 miles (all from walks done specifically for the challenge, not my usual day‑to‑day steps.) Every mile has been walked with purpose and with Mum in my heart.
And the best news of all: after four weeks in hospital recovering from a fall and a broken hip, Mum, who lives with dementia, is finally coming home on Sunday. It’s been a long, emotional stretch, and knowing she’ll soon be back where she belongs has made every step of this journey feel even more meaningful.
If this is only Day 2… goodness knows what will happen by Day 10.
