I'm walking 62 Miles in October for Dementia UK

This October, I'm walking 62 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

Support is Key.

Friday 18th Sep
Hello and thank you for taking the time out to visit my fundraising page.
Those of you who know me well and are close to me will know that our Mum was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer’s.
To be honest I’ve never felt so helpless in a situation in all my life.
Watching our beautiful Mum lose the ability to do so many day to day things, to see her world become so scary and uncertain, to slowly day by day stand by and watch another piece of her disappear has been horrendously heartbreaking.
My sisters and I cared for her for just over 2 years but trying to balance this alongside our own jobs was starting to become harder and harder and sadly after suffering another fall and breaking her hip, we realised she needed 24hr care.
The difficult decision was made to find mum a care home where she would be much safer and have around the clock care, this did not come easy and still to this day doesn’t sit easy with us, but she needed to be safe.
That’s why this charity hits hard with me, I want other families to feel supported and to try for as long as possible to have their loved ones at home where they belong for as long as is deemed possible.
So by raising funds for Families to have access to Dementia Nurses, respite care and all the other support available to them is really important to me and I only wish we could have accessed this also in the beginning, families going through this need all the support they can get, this can be a very difficult time and love and support is so needed.
