I'm walking 30 Miles in September for Dementia UK

This September, I'm walking 30 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

September’s done - I did it!!

Wednesday 30th Sep

Every single day in September, I walked an extra mile. By the end of the month that added up to 45 extra miles, including 1.1 miles walked round and round the house one night when the weather was just too wild to go out. Where there's a will…

It's been such a lovely month. I walked in parks and along roads, in different counties, on each side of the border. I saw the Red Arrows fly overhead and caught a gorgeous Harvest Moon. Along the way I met squirrels, birds and dogs of every shape and size, and passed flowers, apples and blackberries as summer turned to autumn. One of my favourite walks of all was with my sister, and those miles flew by.

Thank you so much to everyone who has sponsored me, cheered me on or asked how the walking was going. Every mile was for Dementia UK, and your support means the world. If you haven't had a chance to donate yet, there's still time, and every little bit helps.

Thank you! 💜

My  challenge was straight forward- walk at least a mile every single day  - and week one is in the bag. Total distance: 9.28 miles.
It wasn’t a lot on paper, but it was a week of proper variety. I walked in sunshine and rain at sunrise, sometimes at the same time. Along the way I got a strange mix of sights: a scrapyard fire, the Red Arrows tearing across the sky, and no end of dogs and birds keeping me company on the route. Week one done, now onto week two.

1st day

Tuesday 1st Sep
Today marked the first step (well, 2700 steps) in my new challenge: walking a mile a day to raise money for Dementia UK.
I headed out at lunchtime to my local park, and true to form, the weather couldn’t quite make up its mind — a light drizzle set in for part of the walk. But it turns out a bit of rain is no match for a good audiobook and I met several very friendly dogs along the way.
First mile down, and a habit hopefully forming. Small steps, but they add up — much like the support Dementia UK provides to families every single day.
I’m planning on posting weekly  updates here as the miles rack up. Thanks for your support, it definitely motivated me to get started today.
