Run 100K in February '26

I'm running 100K for Dementia UK

This February, I'm running 100K and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

Mary Doll

Sunday 11th Jan
Mary, my mother in law was an amazing woman and we always got along so well. She was there when I lost my own parents and she supported  me when I was grieving and trying to get on with life with  small children and a challenging work life. Our 3 girls loved her so much (as did I) and they were aware that things were changing. It  was so sad to see her fade away with this cruel disease.

In the early days, it was hardly noticeable, just some confusion about things we had spoken about, or forgetting where she had gone on holiday.  It then started to become more obvious, but  we managed to keep her going with music and pictures of babies (she loved kids).  She also developed a taste for Coke Zero 😂

Things got harder though, and eventually it became obvious she needed more  professional care   This part was so hard and it was difficult to watch her as she faded away.

I have a photograph in her last few days of her holding my husbands hand and I still get emotional looking at that. Her family was everything.

I started running about 16 months ago and I run around 4 times a week. I’m running a half marathon in September this year for bowel cancer which they think my mum had before it progressed into lots of secondary tumours.

I seen this post about dementia and it seemed just right to do this for Mary. We lost her in February 2020.

Thank you for your donations. I will definitely make sure I get the 100k done - It will be easy, because I know I’m doing it for Mary and to try and help others  ❤️🏃‍♀️💪
