Walk 50 Miles in January 2026

I'm walking 50 Miles in January for Dementia UK

This January, I'm walking 50 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

I have a special reason for doing g this. My mum has Alzheimer’s disease and it has had an incredible effect on her, she’s changed as a person and now struggles to do simple things.

Admiral Nurses helped me an awful lot when she was first diagnosed. Walking 50 miles will be easy compared to what mum is going through

Wobbly woman walking / final walk 14.1.26

Wednesday 14th Jan

smashed the 50 miles in 14 days (only counting dedicated l walks not everyday walking)

Beautiful, bright, icy morning. Walked through a lovely park and met some friendly geese, watched as the mist rise from the lake, the waters warmed by the winter sun.

7.2 miles walked today and I’ve no intention of hanging up my walking boots.

Wobbly woman walking - 4th walk - 5th Jan 2026

Monday 5th Jan

This morning I rose with the sun & before the moon has gone to bed & got a train to Thorpe Bay for today’s walk.

Another freezing cold, bright sunny morning, I’ve even dug out my sun glasses. Air temperature at Thorpe bay positively Arctic, my watch registering 0 degrees. The pavements and beach had a covering of frost and out of the sun the temperature seemed much lower.

Along the way chatted to some oyster catches and birds known to me as Fred and Wilma Scuttle as they scuttle along the sand at speed. No idea what they are really called but Mr and Mrs Scuttle suits them. Thorpe Bay to Leigh on Sea with quick diversion to find the Palace Theatre, after  8.39 miles finally reached Leigh on Sea and stopped for a cuppa and spot of lunch. My thighs, butt, nose and ears are frozen, the rest of me really toasty - need snood and thicker trousers. Total miles walked 10.29. Leaving 22.71/50 to walk.

Wobbly woman walking - 3rd walk - 4th Jan 2026

Sunday 4th Jan

Beautiful bright, sunny but crisp and cold morning. Jack Frost has been out overnight, covering the grass and pathways with a thin layer of pure white frost.

The birds were in fine fettle, full of the joys of a winters morn. Great Tits and Blue Tits fighting to be heard over the loud cawing of the bright green parakeets, the hollow sound of a woodpecker trying to find some dinner in the trunk of an old hollow tree  and the poor ducks and geese trying to get leverage on the frozen lake, their ice skating skills quite remarkable. Another 5 miles completed. 33 miles left to complete.

Wobbly woman walking - 2nd walk - 3rd Jan 2026

Saturday 3rd Jan

After a lovely lay in, I set out for my second walk on another cold and frosty morning. I walked through 3 local parks, had a good chat with several friendly dogs, finally ending up in a Weatherspoon, where I treated mum to lunch and a few cups of tea. Walked 7 miles and ate plenty of liquorice. 12/50 miles walked

Wobbly Woman Walking New Years Day 2026

Wednesday 31st Dec
New Years Day 2026, 06:19. The path was white and crisp with frost, the air freezing and the only sound came from  Mr Chips the Robin chirping from a bush. The sunrise was spectacular, red and pink making the sky seem on fire. Stopped to watch the ever changing colours,  carrying on to happen upon a fight in the park, 7 Egyptian Geese were barking, fluffing their feathers and pecking each other to bits  egged on by two more Egyptian Geese high up in a tree. Loyalties soon changed and the 7 geese on the ground flew up in a rage and knocked the two in the tree firmly from their perches. Bumped into my neighbour Jackie with Daphne- Daphne was rather proud of herself as she’d done her first poop of the year.  In case you think I am odd Daphne is a rather beautiful dog (and yes, I can talk to the animals),  Jackie, the lady that Daphne takes for a walk twice a day. Back home to warm my frozen nose up, nice cuppa and a turkey sausage in a roll. 5miles walked so only 45 left
