I'm jogging one mile a day for Dementia UK

This April, I'm jogging one mile each day and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. Just £8 can cover the telephone costs for two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

Tired legs!

Monday 21st Apr
Day 14- ran to the lake and back
Day 15- we needed to walk the dogs so we took them on our mile and ran to Brooklands museum and back - a slow one with the pooches.
Day 16-short on time so ran to the main road and back and then round the block !
Day 17 - the station loop again but this time with Chaucer ave - woo hoo mixing it up a bit - we know how to rock and roll!
Day 18-Dementia UK sent a challenge round - see if you can get a heart shape  ❤️ on your Strava - we attempted it round brooklands park - well it looks like a heart to me!
Day 19 and another visit to M&S plus needed petrol so we ran to brooklands with Jag in tow and attempted another heart - a bit better ?
Day 20-Nyah wanted to do a long run and I’d only just walked the same route that morning! A slow plod but another 4 or so miles in the bag !
Day 21-a fast station loop again- Nyah is getting much much stronger and faster !

Nearly halfway!

Sunday 13th Apr
Day 9 - Always good to mix up the runs so today we ran to cafe Bla bla!
It’s over the Brooklands museum bridge and into The Heights - lovely little cafe and we had Jag in tow too! We had to walk back as we had takeaway coffee and sausie rolls !
Day 10 - Ran to the end of the lake and back. Always a pleasure spotting the wildlife and many different species of waterfowl on the lake 🦩only joking ! 🦆🪿.
Day 11- An eventful one ! Met with Vic and Tracy but we didn’t keep up with them, did a gentle ish 5K with Jag,
Monument, portmore, to caravan park and back along the canal . I then managed to ‘stack it’ on the bridge - I missed the down kerb bit ! 10 mins later we’re running round the monument triangle just to get the run up to 5 K then Jag wipes out too - on the grass! Not sure how he managed that one ! The joke then became our age and that the correct phrase is not ‘I fell’ but ‘I had a fall’ !!! Hmmm I’m not sure we’re quite there yet !
Although I think Nyah was wondering why both parents were eating dirt !
Day 12 - ran to Brooklands bin ( it’s at the entrance to the museum ) and back.
It’s quite often our shorter dog walk - ‘ We’ll go to Brooklands bin and back’ !
Day 13 - Got back from Grandparents and said we must go as soon as we get home as it was 5pm already. We did the station loop and down the alleyway. Nyah was flying ! Left my arse to dust ! But she stopped at the bottom of our road ! I ran up the hill to the door 🤓😜

Run to the ice cream van !

Tuesday 8th Apr
Day 6 - Needed to get the run done and dusted in the morning as we did a long walk with friends in the afternoon, so we ran up the alleyway, to the station and back .
Day 7 - clocked up just over two miles today. Up to the main road, right, down the hill and then back along the river, past Brooklands museum and then up what is affectionately known as the smelly path which has a short sharp hill at the end🥵(I saw a post on the FB weybridge network that someone has adorned the smelly path fence with car air fresheners!! How funny !
Day 8- Needed to post some ‘in-post’ Vinted sales so back off to Tescos we went and ran from the car park to brooklands park when Nyah announced ‘we’re running to the ice cream van’ and that’s what we did !🍦

The weather helps!

Saturday 5th Apr
Day 3 - Needed to pop to Tesco so we tied our mile in with that visit. Nyah decided we were going to run a bit quicker 😈 so we did !
Day 4 - a longer run today. We went the back way past the fishing lake 🎣over two railways 🛤️past the farm 🐑and along the canal. A nice sunny ☀️ afternoon and ‘Oh look, there’s the Queens head!’ So we stopped for a cheeky lemonade , before we ran 🏃🏻‍♀️home !
Day 5 - I needed to pop to M&S as the zip on one of my sports bras broke !😱Not good when you need one every day !! Ran around a different part of the park in glorious sunshine, the park was heaving with lots of families out enjoying this beautiful weather . Had yoga 🧘‍♀️ and a lake swim this morning too - three activities in one day !?🥵

We’ve started!

Wednesday 2nd Apr
Day 1 - was fine, although I’d just been to Yoga doing what was described as a ‘twisty yoga flow’ and that’s what my inner thighs were reminding me of, whilst running !
Day 2- we will try to mix up our routes as much as possible. Today was along the road to the station and back with little Ralphie in tow! He’s not a bad runner when he gets going but he does like to stop and pee every 30 secs, so don’t take him out if you’re going for a PB! 🙃
