I'm walking 60 Miles in June for Dementia UK

This June, I'm walking 60 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

My Updates

One day to go!

Tuesday 30th Jun
One more day to go (I started a day late) and I’m very nearly there for my fundraising target. 🎯

Please donate - every £1 counts - and help me achieve my goal.

Will update tomorrow evening with the grand total of the miles I’ve walked in June. 🚶

I’ve walked 50 miles!

Monday 22nd Jun
It is great to hit the 50 mile milestone today!  It’s been a tough week and I’ve struggled some days. Now to the final countdown to 60 miles. Wish me luck!

30 miles achieved! Halfway through the challenge.

Wednesday 17th Jun
When I signed up, I  wasn’t sure if I’d be able to do this Challenge. It felt like a big hill to climb. But I’ve made it to the half way marker!
This week I’ve had support from some friends to help me do some longer walks. Thanks to Colette and Dave and their dog Jessie - with whom we walked alongside the River Mersey with. And to Dinah for a long stroll around the RHS Bridgewater Gardens.

20 miles - I’m one third of the way through the challenge!

Friday 12th Jun
It is great to know that I’ve hit the 20 miles marker and I’m now a third of the way through this challenge. This week I’ve averaged 2 miles a day.
Thanks to Ali and doggy Charlie for walking with me to the park - longest walk to date.

Week One completed! 13.23 miles of 60 miles achieved

Wednesday 10th Jun
Thank you to everyone who has sponsored me. It’s really helped with my motivation to kick start this challenge!

It was a slow start to my first week of walking - day one I only managing to walk the very small block around our house (0.3miles).

The rest of the week I built up my walking to do 2 miles a day.  My abdomen told me each day if it was too much so I’ve been making sure I’m resting in between each bit of movement.

Thanks to Claire for her company & support on some of my short walks around the local streets. And to Iain for our evening post dinner stroll.

Feeling the support

Wednesday 3rd Jun
I only  learnt about this challenge yesterday and I decided that it would be a good way to help me with my post surgery recovery  (after follow my  no chocolate challenge that I did in May).
It’s great to have so many people support me with this endeavour especially as I’m starting from a low baseline (walking to the end of my short street & back again) .

Thank you to my Sponsors
