The 36 Hole Challenge

I'm doing The 36 Hole Challenge for Dementia UK

I’m taking on The 36 Hole Challenge and raising funds so that families affected by dementia get the specialist help and advice they need. I would be grateful for your support.

£21 could pay for the telephone costs of five families calling our free Helpline whenever they need support.

£33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.

Thank you!

36 Holes, 30,000 Steps, Zero Lost Balls: A Day of Epic Golfing Survival

Saturday 15th Aug

Hello everyone, Mr Sai here!

On 11th August, I dragged my two sons, Tayza and Nayla, out to the lovely Arrowe Park Golf Club in Wirral for a 36-hole marathon in support of Dementia UK.

Going in, 36 holes sounded like a breezy, heroic afternoon. In reality? It was an endless, sun-baked test of human endurance.

Here is how our day unfolded:

  • 11:18 AM (the first 18) We kicked off full of energy and optimism. The swings were fresh, and the banter was top-tier.
  • Lunch Break: A world-record sprint through some sandwiches to refuel before reality set in.
  • 3:18 PM (the final 18): This is where the golf course suddenly felt larger than the entire continent of Europe. Every fairway seemed to stretch into another postcode.

The sun was scorching, but the golfing gods were surprisingly merciful. Tayza and Nayla played brilliantly, and I even managed to bag a couple of genuine, non-fictional pars.

Did a few of my strikes aggressively interrogate the local tree branches? Absolutely. Did the bark fight back? Naturally. But here is my proudest athletic achievement of the decade: ‘I did not lose a single ball across all 36 holes’. If there is a trophy for ricocheting off oak trees and bouncing straight back onto the fairway, please mail it to my address.

By the time we staggered off the 36th green, my iPhone Health app informed me that we had marched nearly 30,000 steps. Our legs had turned to jelly, our swings had deteriorated into clumsy survival reflexes, and our brains were completely melted.

We celebrated the only way professional endurance athletes do: collapsing into benches and downing copious cups of ice-cold Pepsi like our lives depended on it.

Admittedly, I didn't manage to raise a mountain of cash, mostly because only a few people knew I played golf in the first place!

A massive thank you to everyone supporting Dementia UK – the trees may never forgive me, but every blister and exhausted step was entirely worth it!
