I'm walking 30 miles in September
I’m walking 30 Miles in September and raising funds for families affected by dementia. I would be grateful for your support.
An £8 donation could cover the telephone costs of two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.
Thank you!

Walking Update
Sunday 7th Sep Apologies to everyone. Between work home and my dad I've not managed to do a mile a day. In general I end up walking a more than a mile a day but wanted to keep that separate from this challenge. I have therefor decided to do 3 miles on Saturday and 3 miles on Sunday so make up for the daily mile. 6miles per weekend will give me 24 miles at the end of the month but will make up the remainder miles by doing an extra here or there. Thank you again for your very kind donations. Share

How dementia affects me personally…
Sunday 31st Aug My father was diagnosed with vascular dementia a couple of years ago. At the time we were told he’s got it but that’s about all. We were told it could worsen over years or maybe over days. He was then discharged from the clinic as they had given him the diagnosis and there wasn’t anything else they could offer. We went home hoping he would be one where it would take years for the disease to worsen but we were so wrong. March 2024 my dad had a fall. He went to change his clothes and we found him lying in the bathroom floor. Called an ambulance, he was taken to QEUH where he was kept for 6 weeks. On returning home by dad was a completely different person. Before the fall in March 2024 he was still fairly independent managing to eat by himself, change his clothes, shower, manage his medications etc. However once he returned home he could no longer do anything by himself. Now over a year later he is completely bed bound, double incontinent, cant swallow properly, doesn’t engage (I can’t even remember the last time I heard him say anything), a completely different person but the most difficult thing is that no one knows why! What happened in March 2024? Did he suffer from a stroke? What happens to his brain on a daily basis that he’s forgotten normal functions like walking talking swallowing etc? No one knows anything and we are just told this is the disease just keep him comfortable and see how long he lasts! Even if I could contribute a little towards the research in dementia it may just be of assistance to a family like ourselves years from now and they may actually get some answers.
