Jog 1 Mile a Day in April

I'm jogging one mile a day for Dementia UK

This April, I’m jogging/shuffling one mile a day for Dementia UK and I’d be so grateful for your support.

Dementia UK is a specialist dementia nursing charity and has these brilliant Admiral Nurses – they’re on the end of a phone and one of them helped get me out of a hole on a particularly difficult day. £8 covers the telephone costs for two families seeking support through the free helpline. £33 funds an Admiral Nurse spending an hour helping a family in the community.

My family, like sadly too many, lives with the impacts of dementia every day and has done for over three years. That’s when my lovely mum, pictured two years ago on a good day, was diagnosed with mixed dementia – that’s vascular and Alzheimer’s Disease.

When mum was diagnosed, we had no idea what lay ahead: the heart-breaking decision to move her to residential care, the falls and injuries she’d suffer, her physical deterioration so that today she’s “non-verbal”, unable to move and utterly reliant on carers – and the destruction of her intellect and cognitive faculties. “Does she know who you are?” many ask me. I honestly don’t know.

So, if you are able, please support my fundraiser. It feels like the only way I can fight back against this dreadful disease. I’ll post my jogs everyday on this page – and on Strava.

Thank you!
